Injectors - a positive tale?

So last week I took my wife to an appointment around 40 miles from home. Upon turning into the village the car started to run a bit rougher and seemed down on power. No error messages or warning lamps activated. I turned the car off, left it a while and started it back up. It was still idling roughly. It was misfiring. Straight away I'm thinking coil pack, plugs or injectors. There was no smoke, no coolant loss, no soot from the exhaust, no fuel smell. The temperature gauge was spot on. I'd experienced nothing in the preceding days or weeks that suggested something could be up.

We called out the RAC and they sent out a van. The mechanic plugged in his diagnostic tablet and that brought up the injector failing on one cylinder.
So he had to tow us. That was a bit of a faff, for him anyway! He brought a full size Meccano set out of the back of the van and proceeded to build up a beam where the front wheels sat on. He built up a twin wheel rear axle for the back of the car, effectively making up a trailer for the car. Think he called that a rubix(?). The guy was very experienced and we chatted all the way back about cars and engines. One good omen was that this is the first F Type he's attended. Or is that bad, for me, because the first one he seen is mine?!

I called up Harrogate Jagwar who allowed me to have the car towed straight there, for which I was so thankful.
They've now fitted a new injector and I have the car back. It's running lovely again. They've also carried out some, what I would call, preventative work which I hope will reduce the risk of seized in injectors should any of the other ones go.
Injectors seem to me to be one of the biggest and most ominous things that can be problematic with this engine and I was really worried that it might happen to me. This time I have to say it's been a relative breeze as the RAC and Harrogate Jagwar have been really great. A good recovery company and a great specialist are worth their weight in gold with things like this, that's for sure!

Glad to know it's worked out well for you. Could you add your engine size, age and mileage? Also, what fuel do you use and did you fill up with something different prior to the fault? Finally, which injector number failed. Thanks.

3 litre V6, 14, 60k.
I have been using E5 97 since I got it but not always from the same supplier. I had used Shell that day.
Cylinder 4 I believe.

Thanks, that's all very useful for future reference. Did you use any injector cleaner since you bought it last year? Quite impressive that an injector failed after 10 years/60K miles (assuming it hasn't been replaced by the previous owner). And as you say, there's a real concern among F-type owners related to injectors, specially due to the anecdotal risk of seizure.

On that note, what preventative work was done to the other injectors and how much did it cost you?
