Infuriating leak in the boot

Does anyone have any information on how to remove the interior trim inside the boot?
I've got an annoying leak that I think is tracking down the hard plastic trim near the interior light in the boot. It's the trim with slots in that it's dripping from. I want to pull it apart and locate where the ingress is coming from. It's a little odd that it's coming from halfway along the edge but I've got to start somewhere.

Any information to assist would be helpful before I go busting plastic clips all over the place trying to remove stuff.

Thanks.

I'm sure there have been previous posts and photos on here about boot trim removal - maybe search by leaks / battery conditioner / dashcam fitting.

Others with better access to the info. should be able to post up workshop manual details of the area you describe, when they have a chance to help you.

Will be worth stating if it's a coupe, as your signature area doesn't give details for people to help you.

Good luck in getting it sorted.

Thanks Lunar.

It's a coupe. I've had a look already but can't see any threads with the info that would help.
It's more the side trim within the boot area that I'm after diagrams or instructions for. Once I've undone the Torx held chrome luggage loop thingy, I'm stuck.

Does this help?

It sounds like the water leak is being caused by the seals on the fasteners/studs which secure the boot exterior plastic channel to the bodywork. The channel also has a rubber outer lip which should be flush against the bodywork.......it's worth having a look at this to ensure there’s no large gaps etc. Check the condition of the rubber boot seal too.

If you’re removing the boot interior trim to check where the water ingress is coming from I hope you find the previous link helpful.

The following links show the same/similar problem that you have and explain how it was fixed (I’ve attached some of their photos)......

Thanks RSPN, that is almost certainly what's happened with mine. Extremely helpful photos and write up.
I have exactly the same water drips/tracks as the top 3 photos.
Oh well, pull it all apart and use some proper sealant rather than rely on rubber seals.

A good clean up of the rubber seals and some proper sealant around them and where they fit onto the bodywork should do the trick! Also, the top inner side of the boot exterior plastic/rubber channel needs to be sealed all along, against the bodywork. You can see where it was previously sealed in the attached photo (I've added pointer arrows).

I noted that GARETH and SHAGUAR didn't renew any of the seals when they did the job and all is ok.

Remember that the tailgate strut needs to be removed at the lower end only (where it connects to the bodywork) and before doing this you should support the open tailgate (see photo).

Hope you get it sorted 👍

I had the same issue. I resolved mine by injecting the silcon from the underneath, up through the clip so that I didn't have to remove all the drainage channels etc. Worked a treat ☺

That was a good idea.

I think the job can also be done from above without removing the interior boot trim large side panel etc (which is a pain in the backside).

The tailgate strut lower connection and plastic/rubber channel being removed instead.

As said, you do not need to remove the boot trim. I only pulled it out to help dry it. Mine was pretty wet.

The seal that runs up the edge of the channel is just a strip of double sided tape.

Old thread revival, but best to keep all the information in one place as far as possible...

I've got a boot leak that I'm pretty sure is the boot gutter clips, but I've bought complete new gutter seals and asked my indy to replace. They've contacted me to say that in order to replace them, you need to drop the rear headlining to disconnect the tailgate electrics. Does this sound correct? I'd have assumed a connection for the hatch electrics would have been more accessible?

Anyone else completely remove the boot gutters or did you just replace clips in situ?
