"Important news about your Jaguar’s Deezer app" email from JLR

Has anyone else received an email from JLR about the end of Deezer from Live apps as of tomorrow.

I've been using Deezer as my main source of music and all of a sudden this announcement was sent to me today.

I've contacted Customer Services and they have no idea. The email states you can use Deezer from your Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. I explained I don't have that as my MY18 model has the 8" not 10" screen.

They said "I can see you have incontrol touch pro and pro services. The retailer will be able to confirm if I am eligible for this upgrade"

My local retailer's reply was " Yes sir we can try to load the software at a cost of £240 but cannot guarantee it will work".

I'm confused by all this as sure that you need the 10" display and PIVI pro software installed. PIVI will not install on an 8" Incontrol Pro?? Or has something changed at JLR and they can now do this.

The text from the email sent to me reads;_

IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT YOUR DEEZER APP

Due to circumstances beyond our control, you’ll no longer have direct access to the Deezer app in your Jaguar’s infotainment system from 1st November 2023.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause; however, you will still be able to stream Deezer in your vehicle via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto*.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

As far as I'm aware the 8" system cannot be updated to enable Apple CarPlay / Android Auto - I'm pretty sure they accidentally enabled it when it was first introduced on the 10" and had to patch it out of the 8" because it didn't work...

Additionally, considering my local Jag dealer (in North London) refused to update my 10" system to enable Apple CarPlay / Android Auto I'm even more skeptical about this...

Your pretty sureness is spot on. I had the initial install (it was offered to all MY18s, AIUI) but declined the second "update" (I never go near a dealer). And I've never heard of Deezer, I'm happy with my USB sticks.

This. There was a buggy version with a non functioning CarPlay feature for the 8" screen, but that was several years ago. I think there have been two or three software updates after that.

BTW the 10" screens don't run PIVI pro, PIVI is the next gen infotainment which is used in the current cars. The 10" system also "only" runs ICTP.

Thanks all your comments.

And thank you MajorTom for clearing up the PIVI pro question.

There is very little info on the jaguar site that explains much about those with InControl Pro and the 8" screen, it always shows details on the 10" version.

I must have got through to the wrong people at JLR as their knowledge was limited and had no idea about this email bulletin that went out. I'm hoping that updated software comes out that will enable CarPlay /Android Auto. It seems a shame that these things get pulled. Firstly those with Incontrol Apps will lose that at the end of the year. And now Incontrol Live seems to be going that way, nothing is getting added, only taken away.

With Incontrol Pro 8" it's a case of swapping out the screen only plus updating the software to tell it the 10" display is fitted. L R Retrofits can do this for £800 but I'd rather not spend out and the JLR announce CarPlay on the 8" Pro screen.

Just to clarify. You cannot get Apple Car play or Android Auto on an MY18 car (with physical buttons on the side).

You can on MY19 (10" ICT Pro with on-screen buttons at the bottom). When MY19 launched, Apple Car Play and Android Auto was an optional extra via a Smartphone Package option which some cars did not have but Jaguar decided to include this on future SOTA updates.

I'd say it's extremely unlikely that JLR will release any more ICTP updates, let alone one that enables CarPlay with the 8" screen. It's a discontinued system and now even a discontinued car. It's been a good while since the last update and the system works well so there don't seem to be any important bugs to fix either.

As said, the way to go in a MY18+ facelift car is to get a 10" screen installed and coded by e.g. LR Retrofits. Otherwise get a UAD kit. Btw I saw that one odd down side of having the 10" screen fitted is that you lose the climate settings screen.

I have never seen an MY18 or MY18.5 (J VIN) with the updated screen (without the buttons at the side and CarPlay capable).
