Hopefully picking my F-Type up tomorrow...

Hi Tel,<div><br></div><div>I hope you get these issues sorted, I think it is shocking on a new car. </div><div><br></div><div>You know what I have done to mine to make it acceptable to live with, but the question remains why should I spend 110 hours getting the finish correct or spend £3600 getting some one else to do it, when I have just spent £75k on a car. </div><div><br></div><div>I only have one small blemish on mine, top of the windscreen, as you say looks like a spec of dust under the clear coat. Apart from the Orange Peel (which of course I no longer have) I was not impressed with the depth of the paint finish, 80% of the car is around 110-130um which is ok, but there are some areas like the front quarter of the bonnet where there is 60-70um and worst still around the bottom of the windscreen pillars where it is 30-40um.</div><div><br></div><div>However, I have looked very closely at three other cars over he past 6 moths, an Audi RS6, Lamborghini Aventador LP700 and an Aston Martin Vanquish 2014, all had orange peel, with the Audi being the worst, did not have a super detailed look, but I have to say neither car looked any better than my F Type when new, so perhaps this poor finish is just industry norm now ?!?!</div><div><br></div><div>Hope you get your issue sorted,</div><div>Jamie</div>

Was that with Amigo first I wonder?<div><br></div><div>Looks great. Would like to see some close up shots of the reflections from the point as and when, just to see how the Amigo works.</div><div><br></div><div>Enjoy the second summer!</div>

Looks Great Scooby !!<div> </div><div>Update on my wheels, my new 20" Cyclone Blacks have arrived and the Pirelli Rubber has been fitted, just need to clean and protect the wheels correctly, paint the balance weights and fit them to the car.</div><div> </div><div>Once the new ones are fitted, my existing silver cyclones are to be Ceramic Ball Polished, using a company in Milton Keynes called TRS, Chrome has proven to be near impossible to get done, however the Ball Burnished approach seems to achieve almost the same effect, will keep you posted.</div><div> </div><div>For the moment a couple of pictures of the new wheels and types, up sized a half size, to give a better rim fit !!</div><div> </div><div><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/78/wheels_01.jpg" height="393" width="700" border="0" /></div><div><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/78/wheels_02.jpg" height="393" width="700" border="0" /></div><div> </div>

Thanks Jamie - just a thought but does upping the tyre size constitute a modification? If so, might be best to let your insurance company know, just in case! <br /><br />I used Prima Amigo first and then two coats of Autoglym HD. Will endeavour to take some closer pictures although my photography skills are not good and camera is only one step up from instamatic!!! <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> <edited><editID>scoobydoo</editID><editDate>2014-09-09 18:26:11</editDate></edited>

Jamie - dare I ask how much the rubber costs?<div>Also, how was the rubber fitted without damaging the wheels ? (When the rim is clamped in the rotary machine?</div><div><br></div><div>The black and red will look brilliant and got to be worth another +10mph ;)</div>

Hi guys,<br />To answer the question on rubber scooby, as long as you use the correct fitment and load rating they are fine, interestingly the front tyres as supplied with the car were 255/35ZR20 standard Jaguar fit, the up sized front tyres are now 265/35ZR20 in standard Jaguar fit, however the standard supplied 295/30ZR20 rears are Aston Martin fitment marked 'AMS' so I had to find the 305/30ZR20 also in Aston Martin, this proved a little difficult as Pirelli do not make hundreds of Aston Martin P Zero's, so I had to get them from a specialist, total cost fitted £1120 Inc VAT. Worth it as the tyres now sit nice and square on the rims rather than pulling in slightly, and I now have 305 bragging rights ! <br /><br />With regard to the fitting, my tyre guy is very careful, he places small pieces of cardboard in the clamps to prevent the wheels being marked and lots and lots of tyre soap !,<br /><br />I should get the wheels fitted this weekend, so will post some pictures, just got to paint the balance weights and treat the wheels. I will also do some before and after shots of the silver cyclones when I sent them away for polishing,<br />Cheers for now<br />Jamie<br /><br />

Hi Jamie,<br /><br />Many thanks for clarifying the position re tyre size changes. Your new ones should sit very well on your new rims. A great alternative set. Did your new rims come with TPM Sensors or did you have to buy a set?<br /><br />Regards.<br /><br />Scoobydoo

Word of warning here. It's worth keeping the same sensors because each is coded to a specific corner of the car. Once you put different ones on the car will register a fault & the only way to get around this is to have a dealer re code the system for which they'll probably ask for £120 or so. That said, I have a spare set which came with the extra wheels I bought so if anybody needs them just let me know. They are genuine Ford ones!

Hi Drat,<br /><br />That's very useful information - makes owning a spare set of wheels and tyres quite an undertaking. Presumably, the car would still display an error if the sensors were not fitted to a spare set?<br /><br />Regards.<br /><br /><br />Scoobydoo

Hi Guys, no I have choose not to fit the sensors and just disable the function through the onboard system, not had a look at how this can be done yet, but in the past I have managed it on different cars. I am happy not to have this function active.<div> </div><div>Anybody know how the function can be disabled ?</div><div> </div><div>Jamie</div>

ok, update, wheels on and looking moody, <div><br></div><div>expected something to show regarding tyre sensors, but nothing, no indication or alarms, whic<span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;">h is good news.</span></div><div><br></div><div>With the new slightly wider rubber, I think she is looking really good, the tyres sit better on the rims and give just a little more fill in the arches, some pictures below,</div><div><br></div><div><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/78/20140913_113203_RichtoneHDR.jpg" height="351" width="700" border="0" /><br></div><div><br></div><div><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/78/20140913_121407_RichtoneHDR.jpg" height="349" width="700" border="0" /><br></div><div><br></div><div><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/78/20140913_121420_RichtoneHDR.jpg" height="427" width="700" border="0" /><br></div>

Hi Jamie,<br /><br />Looks fabulous and great news that the lack of TPM Sensors doesn't cause any issues with the on-board display. Might look for a spare set myself in the spring!<br /><br />Regards.<br /><br />Scoobydoo

I had to do a double take then! Thought that was my motor <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" alt="LOL" title="LOL" /><div>Tyres do look nice. 50mm drop next?</div>

How's the paint issues going Tel?<div><br></div><div>Picking mine up on Wednesday and v.nervous about paint :) Got Wolf Body Wrap waiting to go on but not doing it if the base OEM paint has the issues yours has.</div>

Looks fab & with the wider rubber you'll have just a bit more protection from the dreaded kerbs. I found that it's much easier to use a gloss black touch up pen to mask any marks in the black rims than the silver finish which I've had in the past. I picked up a very slight nick before my trip to Italy a few weeks back & was mortified. Black pen made for a virtually invisible repair with little effort. Glad you have no issues with removed TPMS sensors. I was told the display would register a fault if they were absent so I kept mine. I read somewhere that legislation would make them compulsory on new cars within the next year or so anyway, & I would agree that they're a worthwhile safety feature to have, especially as you get an early warning to help prevent damage to fairly expensive tyres.<br />In the meantime, enjoy that lovely red beast!

<div><br></div><div>It's with the JLR Warranty group at the moment. The JLR Body and Paint program manager recognises the issues, as well as with other customers cars!- we shall see....</div>

<div><br></div><div>That's both good and bad news Tel - thank you. If they have had a reasonable number of issues, looks like they need to tweak QC and/or the process itself. I really must book a time to go and see one being made. Never been there even though this is my 4th Jag and my office is 15 miles from them :)</div><div><br></div><div>Would love an insider tour but my journalists have a hard enough time even getting their PR dept to talk to them yet alone swing something beyond the normal. </div><div><br></div><div>Mike</div>

OK, original cyclones back from the polishers, a couple of pictures.<br /><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/78/F-Type01.jpg" border="0" /><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/78/F-type02.jpg" border="0" />
