looking for some guidance from you knowledgeable lot please!
I want to buy an F-type - and I'm looking at this car.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202411025874174?sort=price-asc&twcs=true&searchId=eacf8ca2-55a6-4e79-8de9-908a2afcde60&advertising-location=at_cars&body-type=Coupe&exclude-writeoff-categories=on&make=Jaguar&maximum-badge-engine-size=3.0&model=F-Type&postcode=ch431tg&price-to=40000&year-from=2020&fromsra
It's a base model - would this cause an issue down the line with a resale?
Anyone know this car? What should i be looking out for? Does it seem reasonable?
Thank you.

Hardly Base Spec, it;s missing Memory seats, Heated steering Wheel, pano roof, but has surround system and sports seats and 2 tone interior. Looks fine to me, the P300 is underrated and a very nice drive, reasonable price, also it's not approved used from Jaguar I guess, so check the warranty you might get if that's a Renault garage selling it. Depends whats important to you.

Some of the photos seem to show a glass roof?
I like a lot about that car and there are some positive features that elevate that, in my opinion.
A nice, tasteful colour that I think suits the F.
Good looking wheels.
Heated front screen by the looks of it? That's a feature which I'm glad mine has right now!
I like the more up to date interior features like the updated info screen and the Speedo screen.
I wish my F had those.
I'm undecided about the revised exterior and, in particular, I can't make my mind up about those front lights.
I like the seat design but I don't like the seat colour. When I was looking I avoided cars with light colour seats.
I don't know whether the F with the 2L is any good although there are those that rate it and suggest it might have some weight related advantages over the V cars.
I would say that I am attracted to the prestige and drama of a supercharged V and that's what steered me toward a V and away from a turbo 4 pot. I suspect most other think like that and, unfortunately, haven't given it the time of day.
I do wonder if, the longer the 2L exists the more people will realise its strengths and perhaps it'll gain wider recognition.
Those are my opinions, kinda anecdotal really!

Looks like a nice spec, one owner, low mileage car. Very sharp. It may be the lower-capacity engine but it's not been 'poverty specced' - the seats, glass roof etc are expensive options/upgrades.

When you came to sell it you'd inevitably get less than a V8. But it's currently £10-12k cheaper than a similar aged V8 anyway, so it's swings and roundabouts.

I've never driven a P300 but a number of reviewers considered it the most agile and poised model. I'll leave someone who's run one to fill in the details about reliability but I'm not aware of any major issues, especially on later model cars like this one.

Agreed, looks like a nice example if a P300 is the type of F-Type you're looking for. As said the spec is quite good and the interior spec is actually better than most F-Types out there.

If you’re buying purely based on what will have best resale value imo you’ll usually end up in a car you don’t necessarily like/love and forever will be beating yourself up for not going for the the one that got you more excited. Cars aren’t investments and you’re bound to lose money on them so what I’d suggest is to leave the resale value aside, buy at a price you’re happy with and enjoy it, resale value is a problem for later!

Amen.

Looks a nice example, what I did notice from looking at the photos of the centre console, it appears to not have the exhaust ( valve enhancement) button. I’m sorry but I don’t know how this affects the exhaust note without it. Guys on here will be able to help with that , but on my P300 it’s a must.

Wise words - thanks!

You don't use dynamic mode? Or do you use the button to quieten down dynamic mode? I've never really seen the point of the switch as dynamic mode opens the valves and with that mode off leaves 'em shut until about 4000 rpm. What does the switch give you that the dynamic switch doesn't?

Yes I do use Dynamic mode, but in D with the active exhaust button pressed, driving around town it’s nice to have that deeper burble and more throaty exhaust note with the occasional pop😉, it’s not as orchestral as the V6 or V8, but it adds to the driving experience.

Pretty much the same spec as my car apart from the pano roof and my one is red. I would haggle it down abit or maybe get some warranty. I paid about 29k for a 2018 9k mile car. On my daily to London 30 miles each way about 20 motorway 10 city roads I average 28mpg which is a lot of average speed cameras and m25. I upgraded the stereo with RR / XJ speakers , sound deadened the doors and have performance 12 way seats to go in as those seats give me back ache after an hour or so.

As for the active exhaust I can’t really tell must difference with it pressed although from the outside you can I have been told although it’s not night and day

In mine, if I select dynamic mode the exhaust switch is automatically activated. If I then press the exhaust switch it closes the valves at low rpm. S and D have no effect on the exhaust valves in dynamic (apart from S potentially keeping the revs higher). Is it different in the later models?

I think the main advantage of the exhaust switch button is to be able to open up the exhaust in normal non dynamic mode. I only use dynamic mode when I'm out on a proper blast but usually want the extra exhaust burble also on other occasions. In everyday driving I usually run in D but 95% of the time with the exhaust valves open so mostly when I start the car I open the valves directly. Constant speed motorway runs (so not when on the autobahn :)) are basically the only occasions when I prefer to keep the valves closed.

Morning, i think Major Tom has answered my reply to SCM for me 😉👍🏻. I don’t think there is any difference in the later models re active exhaust, just that in non dynamic mode, ie comfort/ normal I like to drive with the active exhaust button on.
Have a great weekend folks
