Goodbye F-Type - For Now!

Almost 3 years ago to the day, I bought the car I’d dreamt about owning since I first set eyes on one back in 2013. Not for a second did I think I’d ever own one, thank you Jaguar depreciation 😊 Yesterday I dropped the car off to be transported to the new owner over 450 miles away. I only sold the car as we now have a dog and I increasingly found we left the F-Type in the garage and took the boring estate car for weekends away or hikes up in the hills.

I’ve owned 28 cars in my 25 years of driving, including many ///M cars, but the F-Type has been by far the most enjoyable and special car to own. Exotic looks (can't beleive it's 10 years old in June) , real sense of occasion, plus the stunning noise it makes. In fact, it’s the first weekend car I’ve never felt the urge to put an aftermarket exhaust on, just disconnected the vacuum pipes from the valves. I’ll miss the car for sure, the garage feels so empty.

Despite the above, my advice to any potential buyer is to buy a 2015 or newer car, or at least ensure it's had all known (lack of) quality related parts changed out before you buy it, like mine did during my ownership. Whilst I didn’t lose anything in terms of the value of the car in 3 years, it cost me a lot to maintain, more than any other car I’ve owned and put this down to it being one of the early models. Looks like the later cars are a lot more reliable. I'm confident the new buyer will have many years of happy and troublefree motoring ahead of him.

As for what’s next, well I’m going to try my best not to buy anything for another 6 months. I fully expect\hope the recession will start to impact the value of cars, in fact I can see the facelift V8’s already starting to drop well below $50k. I'd still be more than happy with another V6S, but a coupe next time. My other left field option is the new Supra, need a second test drive.. But ultimately I think I’ll miss the F-Type too much, challenge is finding one to the exact spec I want.

Lastly, massive thank you to everyone on here, great forum and a lot of really helpful people and resources.. Unlike many other forums, this one has always had a postivie vibe with very few keyboard warriors out there. Will continue to visit for sure.

One last picture of her I took at home yesterday morning ☹

Great post scz4 - and of course it's the best shape F 8-)

The car looks immaculate and a credit to its owner.

Very nice bonnet alignment too - some of the dealer photos make you cringe! - someone will be very happy with their purchase I'm sure.

Don't be a stranger and let us know what you eventually go for won't you.

Haha, I do love the look of the coupe, but will miss the convertible element. In fact I think the convertible suits the V6 centre exhausts. Where-as the coupe looks more balanced with the quad V8 exhaust.

Will do. Already looking at a lovely red V6 Dynamic, but it doesn't have the performance seats :( Should probably just sit tight for that perfect car... no rush over the winter months I guess.

No rush - just think of the time you’ll save cleaning it over the winter!
And the likely 12p a litre fuel tax increase in March should help you find a spring bargain too.

Car 696. Hope the new owner enjoys it and the search for another one, come the summer, goes well!
