For future reference for anyone looking to replace their glass roof, it can be done as a DYI as long as you got the tool to disconnect and connect a new glass panel, I didn’t so found a chap that does windscreens and stayed with him to change the glass roof. Took about 3 hours altogether (mostly because neither of us had done this before, one hour me striping the headliner and two hours putting it all together).
A) remove headliner (other members have covered this in detail - thank you for doing this as it saved me time)
A2) 6 screws in total - 2 on A pillar, 2 on sun visors and 2 on the “brace” pillar behind seats.
B) disconnect the blind
B2) 10 screws, 3 on the left, 3 on the right, 2 in front and 2 in back, getting to the 2 in the back is a pain
B3) one locator pin between 2 front screws and another between 2 back screw
C) Cut old windows seal
C2) those locator pins end up being a problem, either cut right through them or cut up to then over them
C3) the brackets that blind screws go into are also a problem, make sure you pull the wire over them rather going through them as you’ll be snapping the wire more times than you’d want.
D) glass disconnected
E) Prime and glue
F) put new glass on and repeat the steps in reverse.
Something to note, if you’re buying a new one then ignore but if like me you got a second hand glass roof (£400 rather than couple of grand) you want to save the plastic trim around it, it’s a pain to do but you’ll be thankful afterwards, patience and knowing what you need to do is the key, luckily for me the chap that does the windows worked magic and saved the trim for me. He said he probably won’t do this again but if anyone here needs to change their roof and happy to role up their sleeves send me a message and I’ll send you his details as may be worth a try now that he knows what he needs to do, only charged me 2 hour labour - based just outside of Coventry.
Hopefully no next time but if I find myself needing a new glass roof I’ll probably DIY it.
