Garaging

I got the lasers a few years ago from Aldi !! They work on a sensor so as soon as the car approaches they turn on.
Couldn't do without them.

Never seen those before. Very interesting.

Could be dangerous if walking under them while looking towards them (without realising they are there) ?
Do you expect me to talk? - No Mr Bond, I expect you to die !!!

To be honest because of the angle from the roof, the lasers have never been a problem, but I guess if you have young ones it may be worth using an alternative method.

Food for thought.........just not too keen on black. It's a bit dark and it's likely to show up dirt really well.....hmm..

Last link in my previous post has a light grey option. But to be honest I've not had any issues with the black ones showing up much dirt.

I got the lasers a few years ago from Aldi !! They work on a sensor so as soon as the car approaches they turn on.

Woah, I'm a gadget nerd and never even heard of such a thing before! I have to reverse into mine otherwise I'd be looking for one myself.

now I'm out measuring the floor.
One half (and a bit extra width) ends up at either 84 of the "industrial" 14mm tiles or 77 of the "normal" 8mm tiles. Will the 8mm ones be ok or do you think I need Industrial strength given the weight of the car standing in one place for extended time periods?

Just ordered one of these from Axminster.

The machine generates a cross hair, I figure to have one of the laser lines to match the approach of the car and the perpendicular one to draw a stop line at the windscreen. £40, I will let you know how I get on.

Well, the 8mm ones do show a picture of a car sitting on them, and they're rated for garage/light industrial so I reckon they'll be absolutely fine. I'm basing this on the fact that I'm very happy with the quality of my 14mm ones, so I reckon they'd only sell the 8mm ones if they were also convinced about their quality too.

Just tried the Bosch laser. The cross hairs aren't wide enough to be of any real use.

Also red lasers on a red car? Should've though that through a bit more.

I have started modifying my garage to accommodate my FType.

Red floor paint from B and Q, two coats.
Classic Red feature wall emulsion for the wall surface.

A bit of black paint to reflect the Black Pack in the car.

Black Decal from the local sign writers (£30). Bargain.

If anyone wants a copy of the digital artwork then let me know. The JAGUAR and Leaper are freely available in the web. The FType had to be drawn from a photo.

The wall is 3.5m into the garage and the car parks underneath the two joists that keep it up. On the other side is a metre deep shelf for the mountain bikers.

Looks good! What kind of paint did you use on the walls? I'd like to paint mine white too but the bricks look like they'll just absorb lots of paint.

D

The white paint is/was a disaster. They're celcon bricks which are thirsty for more. I am consider buying £100 of plasterboard and doing the job properly.

I just use foam pipe lagging in my garage to protect the doors from hitting the wall, but I did see this a while ago which looks a bit better, if you need something like that:

Self-Adhesive Protective Foam Strips
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N00W6B8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fmIgybQQEVA8D

I've got something very similar on my garage walls - works a treat; and also helps in knowing if I am in far enough if I line up with the wing mirror. Shame it's protecting the Fiesta's paintwork rather than the Jag buy hey-ho

Laser update

Who needs laser? I popped round to a friends to see their solution to lining up correctly.

He has a 30cm wide two foot tall mirror on the end wall at the left hand side. This acts as a giant wing mirror to see his car past the narrow opening of the garage doors. Simples!

Good idea ! ...and don't forget the mirror on the ceiling so you can see all the action from on top

'Darling....dinner's ready'........'yes dear...i'll be in in a minute' .........lol...

(just being silly....my daft humour)
