Garage dimensions

How long are your garages? I want to convert my double door to a single rollover so that she can live in comfort 😀. But if my measurements seem to indicate that I’ve only about 300 mm leaway. Is the F type unusually long or have Persimmon built a useless garage?

I have a fairly new build house by Bloor and the garage was 5.5m long but could easily have been longer (or built further back) as there’s a useless 1m behind it. Ftype fits fine and I have a roller door with a mirror so I can see when the front will clear it. Leaves a few cm at the front and over 60cm at the rear.

On this topic, I’ve got a ridiculously narrow 2.25m (useable) and I note these cars tend to be nearly 2m wide.... does this mean I’ll get mine in but won’t be able to get out of it?!

New home just built (keys picked up Saturday :) )
Garage is double at 6.5m x 5.6m
Give or take a few mm I'll have 6m of usable internal and 4.4m of car so enough for a decent bench and workshop area and
Seems one of the few things that's grown as my last home was less <1m spare

Bit academic though as the drive is block paved and road not finished and to be paved so no way an F can climb c20cm onto it . It's going to have to live in temp garage for a few weeks

Although tight 30cm is enough. Wooden blocks where the tyres need to stop worked for me for the last few years, accurate to 20mm (enough for the back door to open and not need a nose respray...

Edit
Keys at 11.00 garage cleaned by noon, sealer on and first coat of floor paint by mid afternoon. Second coat Sunday. All about priorities,,,

6.12 deep and 6.20 wide In 5 year old home, new build.
Have plenty of space with a hard marker on floor to feel when reversing so to allow most of the space at the back of the garage for tool chest and other equipment.

On our recently renovated house only had rom for a single garage, dimensions are 5.6m long by 3.8m wide, this is sufficient to open both doors fully

I better clear my garage out. It's still full of junk and we moved in 5 years ago. 2.45m garage door opening and 5.5 meters deep though it is a double width garage with two doors.Never understood that why not one large door instead of the two.

Probably 2 singles are cheaper than a double .... Gotta make a profit where you can! :?

Not sure as my new neighbour has a double and single door on his c10m open triple garage (some envy :)).
It’s likely a mix of aesthetics, planning regs on joist sizes, door costs and of course width.

Agreed.

cars have got wider but the doors garage doors have not.

Two doors will be lighter than one large single door, as will the associated springs and pulleys. (Replacing cables on a single door is a nasty job. I hate to think what the springs on a double door are like)).

I replaced my rotten up and over doors with frameless sectional ones, not long after the Ftype arrived. Losing the frames provides an extra 6 inches clearance.

Build the biggest garage you can, if without planning permission then 30sq meters. In a format of your choice....

How did you get on with your garage issue?

I'm looking at buying a house with an integrated garage (so cannot expand) ...but its dimensions are tiny, 5.22m by 2.32m, this leaves me 40cm (if I bend in the wing mirrors an have cut-off of carpet lying the walls to get in close)

I'm not sure if a contortionist could get out of that car.

I can fit three cars in my garage comfortably along with a freezer, fridge workbench, bins, mice, spiders and junk from the house, so no issue. But my parents had a much tighter garage and they hung a tennis ball from the ceiling and when the windscreen hit it they new they had about an inch of space left.

IMG_20210319_135906.jpgRicardo 99, my garage is 2m27 at the door, I fold one mirror in and get it as far over to left as possible, push the seat all the way back and I can get out OK,
