Fuse 15 Remote control

I’ve now fitted my remote control for Fuse 15 and all seems to be working so I thought I’d write up how to do it for under £24.

Credit for this goes to Jag Bass on the US forum, post 17 here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f-type-x152-72/active-exhaust-button-fuse-43-a-213500/

And to LMS on that thread whose circuit diagram massively helped me (I’ve put their picture in this thread)

Firstly what is it: As most will know, once you start driving the exhaust valves only open at a certain RPM (depending on MY), if you remove fuse 15 (I assume it works for fuse 43 on the models that need that one) then the valves are always open. This mod enables you to press a button to effectively remove or replace the valve without opening the bonnet – Roar when you want but purr when required.

The US forum points to an Emylo product which uses a remote control, if you have homelink on the mirror it seems you can use that instead of the remote. Doc IW, please add to this post with the version you used.

The product I used means you can use an app on your mobile instead of a separate remote. It needs wifi to first set it up so do this indoors using a USB lead to power it, after set up it works using the phones Bluetooth. Only negative of my setup is the switch currently seems temperamental when sat in the drivers seat (RHD), if I lean my phone closer to the left side of the windscreen it works better.

Don’t get this Waterproof case as it works but is slightly too small (other makes have a case already): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01CTN7LRK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&th=1

The things from Halfords had shorter wires than I would like but it worked, plus the wires were too thick for the connections so I had to snip a few strands.

You also need an extra blade fuse, plus a couple of spade connectors or other way of connecting 2 of your wires to the breakout fitting plus a bit of spare wire.

Circuit (from LMS on us forum):

My setup (black wire goes to earth on car):

And in the car, there is an earth near the fuse box, my set up is currently just tucked in a gap but aim to fix it better. Fuse box does close but won't want to open it too often as it might damage the wires:

Note that for MY21 onwards the valve is electronically controlled and removing the fuse means the fuse stays in the position it is in so you want to activate it when the valves are open, but the switch is powered off with the car.

So the sequence is:
1) Press start but without foot on the brake so the accessories turn on but engine doesn't start. (valves are open at this point)
2) Activate the switch using the phone app
3) Start the car – you will know the fuse isn’t connected as when you press the exhaust button it flashes rather than staying on.

When car is turned off it resets - depending on which connection you use on the circuit board will dictate whether the circuit is open (valves open) or if the fuse is in place if you don't press the button on restart, mine defaults to fuse being in place so standard operation.

My setup will effectively be exactly the same but I will be using a relay switch with a “key fob” remote control (rather than phone Bluetooth) which I will just keep in the glove box. Putting it together is a project for me on Boxing Day. Here is the link to the relay which I’ve ordered and expecting delivery tomorrow:

Did my “claws out” mod today. Works as intended.

I used your relay suggestion as I also wanted a fob rather than fiddling around with connecting bluetooth. It works perfectly so thank you! It has, however, revealed that one of my electronic exhaust valves isn't working
