Frosty Mornings -Convertibles

Hi All<div>Has anyone else not been able to get in to their cars on these frosty mornings ? Twice this week, my wife hasn't been able to open the car. The handles pop out, but the door latch doesn't seem to activate. I guess because the windows have been frozen and won't drop. </div><div>Apart from resorting to a car cover, does anyone have any suggestions for preventing this ?</div><div>Cheers</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

I always smear silicon grease around the rubber door seals of our cars prior to winter. I would also suggest smearing it where the windows meet the hood. It stops any trapped moisture freezing and holding the doors closed.<br />

I keep some de icer spray in the boot (this doesn't seem to have a problem opening on frosty mornings) and a quick spray around the top edge of the drivers window is enough to free it up <div><br></div><div>Its a common problem with frameless windows </div>

Thanks, but not an option, the garage has my classic car and a couple of motorbikes in there<img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

I can definitely recommend using some silicone spray on the door seals to avoid sticking. I've done it for about 5 years now since I got my last car (an Evoque) and it works very well. You need to re-apply once every 3-4 months to keep it going but even when it hits -10C here (and even after power spraying the car the night before) I've never had a problem. I use the WD40 silicone spray and the corner of a microfibre cloth.

I was a big advocate of silicon sprays as it works well. Some use Vaselines and silicon grease. You are Ok to use any non petroleum based products on 'rubbers', but I found that all of the above left a residue either on the glass or hood material.<div><br><div>The good thing about the German product (Gummi Pfledge) is that it appears to be a soap based product and is absorbed by the rubber, which leaves no residue. I guess that's why so many motor manufactures use it commercially.</div><div><br></div><div>Must admit, have not used anything but since I found this little wonder.</div>

I'm not sure to be honest I've read that you need to subscribe to the in control service but my dealer set me up with it all. It is a very handy app, can see where the car is, if you forget to lock or alarm it you can do it remotely and it's got a journey tracker so you can see if your wife is using your petrol rather than her own while you're away on business!

I don't think so, though mine was new in August so it could be a late addition. Can anyone confirm the remote start is available on older cars?

It looks like remote start was introduced for the MY16 cars with the InControlApps. I'm guessing that this is aligned to the system with the latest colour screen/graphics rather than the previous block monochrome one.<br><br>The following is from the November 19, 2014 launch of the MY2016 changes:<br>
********************<br>
<i>Enhancements are not limited to the chassis and driveline technology.
The instrument cluster features new dials and gauges. The infotainment
system has been upgraded, and the F-TYPE now features InControl Remote„¢,
InControl Protect„¢ and InControl Apps„¢3 connectivity and telematics
functions. When away from the vehicle, InControl Remote makes it
possible to check information such as the fuel level or the door lock
status using a smartphone. The driver can also use a smartphone to start
the engine, enabling the climate control system to bring the cabin to
the desired temperature before the journey begins. InControl Protect
sends a signal automatically to a call center based on a supplemental
restraint system trigger; an emergency call can also be initiated
manually by the vehicle occupants.
</i><br>**********************<br>MY16 cars will have been produced/registered during 2015. Probably around April onwards from what I can remember seeing at the time on the forecourts (mine's an October 2015). Unless anyone else has an earlier MY14 car having remote start.<br>
