First time Jag buyer

Hi Friends,

I hope you guys are all well.

As the title states it's my first time ever looking into buying a jag f type v6s. Always been a German BMW Man from a 1 series coupe, 5 series, 440i and currently an M4. I do think my time as a BMW owner is sharply coming to an end as I've had my eye on a F-type for a short while now.

Had a look at a V6s in white today and it looked absolutely stunning however, after watching many YouTube videos where the car pops, burbles and farts on a throttle blip it didn't do it on this particular car even though i pressed the exhaust button and racing mode on the flag mode "dynamic if I'm correct", it was just a v6 humming noise which sounded great but was looking for little bit more drama in terms of the above mentioned.

I did press the exhaust button and didn't really hear a difference in sound while stationary, is this normal or am i really meant to hear a difference in tone and maybe that's why my expectations for the exhaust drama wasn't there.

What do you guys think of this model and SPEC, id greatly appreciate your advice in what must have this car should have if you were to buy it :).

here is the link- https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202501278437740?sort=distance&twcs=true&searchId=41e62042-b0a3-48f5-b661-3ab1d1becec0&advertising-location=at_cars&aggregatedTrim=&body-type=Coupe&colour=White&fuel-type=&make=Jaguar&model=F-Type&postcode=Sw1v4hf&transmission=&year-to=2025&fromsra

I also did test drive a V8 and my god what a monster it was but i think personally its way to much for me at this current moment and the sound was just beautiful to ignore, but road tax and insurance is going to kill me at my old age of 29 lol.

Thank you for reading and have a great day

Looks a nice car from the pictures. The bonnet seems well aligned.

No heated steering wheel and can't tell from the interior shots whether the seats are either. Maybe not an issue for you?

If you know the registration please post it as our more knowledgeable forum members can confirm spec and service history.

The car was registered from new on 5th November 2016 on a private plate and is a one owner car. The v5c says no changes so that first owner isn't recorded yet. The private plate is still attached to the car (A1 plus initials) so I presume the garage is selling it on behalf of seller.

Do check all brakes for damage, pitting or wearing as that was an advisory on last MOT in October. Also check the windscreen as that is reported as having damage.

Below is service history, unfortunately not itemised and nothing since 2022 recorded so look for paperwork.

This car has NOT had any of the H239 updates so should be noisy and pop and crackle on overrun. Could be dynamic mode not in factory setup mode, stuck exhaust valves or not giving it enough beans.

However as your coming from an M4 with 470-525bhp I wouldn't expect that you didn't properly drive it! Also surprised you found the V8 too much and as the M4 is group 42-44 insurance I would expect much difference in price on a cheaper/older group 42-50 F-Type.

Hello,

thanks for the reply.

Registration is A1 JLP and they are looking to sell on behalf of somebody.

Didn't think it had heated seats or wheel and no meridian sound system which was a little bit of a downer.

Hi,

Maybe could of been stuck exhaust valves because half the YouTube video's i watch makes a fart noise on the upshift and it defo didn't do that and believe me i gave it the beans and had taken it full throttle and power in manual shift mode. my M4 is a 2016 F82 model 420bhp stock and insurance is normally just under 1k GBP however, the V8 wanted 1800 quid.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to check for the window yesterday as i was just in awe of looks and neglected the looking part, which I'm glad I drove away from to have a think yesterday.

As for servicing they said there is one DUE now and they would carry out from their own garage.

I'm just slightly swayed away from this , it did look great but now I'm thinking is there a problem with the valves or exhaust. When the car was stationary and he revved it to the limiter I believe of around 3-4k it made a beautiful sound and hitting the limiter it popped and banged but that was it.

I've just done some further reading on this forum and people have said they have had their back box replaced and the signs were black soot on exhaust tips, which when i did go to see the car the car exhausts were covered in dark smoke on both tips.

If the valves in the exhaust are stuck, you can get these replaced if necessary without needing to go for a complete back box. See https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=7870 So, don't let that be a deal breaker 😉

back again, test drove another v6s and oh my the exhaust was phenomenal , never fallen in love so quick.

My question is which year models should i avoid in terms of issues and toning the noise down due to regulations.

don't want such a new car cause of the filtered own noise

The filtered cars are from 2019 so go with 2018 or 2017 to keep the noise you can still go 2019 facelift model and get the modstock mod and valves on the back box.

Two things to consider here. GPF's were fitted to MY19 and onwards (note model year not reg plate year).

And H239 is back dated to approx 2016 cars.

H239 V1 in 2018 so cars forget dynamic mode at each ignition cycle.

H239 V2 in 2020 to keep exhaust valves closed below around 1500rpm regardless of mode.

H239 V3 in 2022 which I don't think we have much information on or facts but based on other posts possibly valves stay shut until over 3k rpm.

could that be the reason why the 66 plate sounded so diffrent to the one i tested today 63 plate?

Thanks

hi,

went to look at one any they sounded amazing. however, after ringing jag they said 4k for a service coupled with the 2k insurance (29 YO) seems way to much for me right now.

The v6s suited much better and sounded just as mean, more then half for insurance.

Im loking at a white v6s and im struggling to find any with a meridian sound system, none of them have one.

V6 s is the way to go, lighter on the front as much power as you need on any road, just make sure it's an S, better dynamics

You can always upgrade the speakers, as I did, which, along with extra sound deadening in the doors, makes a big difference to the base system. There are plenty of posts on here explaining the upgrade.

Hi Guys/Girls,

Back again as for weeks and months not found anything till last week. V6s 37k FSH no pan roof or meridian. WD65 DNF is the reg

Car priced at 24,500GBP however, trying to negotiate a cash buy and get a discount at least of 500 quid or so which they agreed to do. I did say look ill cash buy the car at 24k if you fix a curb on one alloy and carry out a service which was overdue now for two months while sitting in their garage. They've come back and said nope! if you want the alloys done and service itll cost you full price but my argument is , hold on you've had the car since September last year its now may, a service was due in march which you want me to pay for (like should i even be paying for it if it's overdue) and for me to pay for the wheel refurb al at full price.

am i overthinking this or should i walk away as i feel like they're taking the micky?

For a car with 7 previous owners and very little service history I would suggest it is several thousand pounds over priced.

Screenshot_20250504-102759.png

It could be over due supercharger belts, different oil etc and could be £2k+ service required. Also why has no one else brought it since September?

Thanks for your reply mate,

If your saying this is overpriced what do you reckon it should go for.

Exactly my questions, since last year! now all of a sudden i got interest its "oh we have two interested buyers right now"

I could ask the garage about the belts but i have a feeling ill be fed waffle in this case.

I'm feeling to sway away from this one as it may seem to good to be true

Walk away from it. Plenty more examples out there, and the only thing you should buy from anywhere that markets themselves as a supermarket are groceries
