Firesand F-Type R change/ upgrade to black pack

Hi,

I have just bought a 2015 Firesand F-Type R that was specced with chrome window surrounds, front grille surround and side vents. I'd like to get all these changed to glossy black, like as if the car was specced with the black pack. To my understanding I have two options that make sense:

1. Get a firm to wrap my chrome trim with glossy black

2. Let a Jaguar retailer change all the chrome trim to glossy black genuine parts

Has anyone done this before? What would be the cost of either alternative?

Regards,

Jonas

Hello Jonas,

I’ve had those changes made to both my front grill & the chrome trim/vents.

Front grill is the Paramount Project 7 grill which was sprayed Gloss black. Never liked the OEM bumper bar & number plate. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I love it. So much more aggressive & eye-catching. The grill surround can be wrapped but afaik front end needs removing to get to it.

Explored a couple of options for the chrome trim. Cheapest route would’ve been wrapping. A mate of my runs Blueprint Nottingham. A top end vinyl graphics firm. They de-chrome loads of cars, especially Audi & BMW. They’d never done an F-Type before but said to do it properly, the wing mirrors would need removing. Also the designed & contour of the window surrounds would not be straightforward to wrap to a satisfactory level. In the end I gave it back to my dealer to be factory fitted.

100% get Jaguar to factory fit the new window surrounds. This needs to be done right & is not a DIY job imho. Cost was, approx £1700.00 & included side vents.

Project 7 Grill/Surround supplied & fitted at Paramount. Looks great but my experience wasn’t. Cost about £1000.00 all in. Glad I had it done to get rid of bumper bar but lessons learnt.

I have a mint OEM Project 7 Grill/Surround, painted gloss black in my garage. This is also fitted with PDC sensor pockets. May sell if interested?

Hope this helps. Good luck & hope to see you at meets in 2018 👍

FInd a wrap shop with the right credentials and they can wrap all the parts your interested in ...

Front bumper is east to drop to provide access to the grill surround (took me longer to remove all the bolts than actually replace the grille parts) ...

Side vents are DIY if you know how to use a ring spanner and some masking tape ... OEM parts less then £200 ... wrapping would be similar costs ...

Window surrounds (and possibly the mirror housings) look fab in gloss black on Firesand ... big money to go OEM parts and stealer labour charges, for wrapping they will remove and refit to give an OEM look.

If you’ve not had any wrapping work done before, do be aware that even the highest quality of vinyl will never have the depth of shine of OEM parts/paint.

Look forward to finish job and photos when complete ...

Thanks a lot for your replies!

Based on what you've said I think I've made up my mind that I will go the formal route and get Jaguar to replace the parts. Only problem is that the price I got quoted was pretty steep - I'll pay about 27 K SEK (£2400) for the material only, they still haven't quoted me on the work yet. And that does not include the side vents which I have ordered online and will change myself.

Do you think one variant could be to buy the material online and then just go to Jaguar and get them to do the job? I'm pretty sure that would save me 30 % or so.

I will for sure post photos (before and after) once everything is done! :)

Buying OEM parts on line will definitely save you ££

Take care with the side vents ... I changed mine and posted some hints on here, but do be careful ...

Grille is also DIY providing you can borrow a good friends time.

As for the window surrounds, have you considered visiting either a glass fitter or wrap company? Both will be familiar with removing/installing the parts and I would expect both to be keen when pricing the job

Thanks for the input - I'll check your post on changing the side vents!

Talking to a glass fitter och wrap company was not a bad idea at all. I'll for sure investigate if I have any good firms in the vicinity.

So finally I decided to buy all parts OEM and then get them retrofitted. I've received a quote for the job from one of the authorized service workshops in the Stockholm area, but will look around for more efficient alternatives. HOWEVER; I need to be sure that I actually order all the right parts for the black pack upgrade (otherwise this could end up being a stupidly expensive mistake).

The parts I plan on purchasing are:

- Drip molding/ window trim (RH) , T2R25430
- Drip molding/ window trim (LH), T2R25432
- Front molding/ under side mirror (RH), T2R11256
- Front molding/ under side mirror (LH) , T2R11257
- Waist seal (RH), T2R11258
- Waist seal (LH), T2R11259
- Front grille surround, T2R3563
- Side vent (RH), T2R5995
- Side vent (LH), T2R5996

I know this is a long shot, but would anyone here be able to confirm that this is the correct part list for the black pack upgrade?

Would be tremendously appreciated!

Jonas

I am sorry I can't help you to confirm that these are the correct partnumbers.

However if you should be unsuccessfull in getting a confirmation here, there is another F-type forum with some members with very good knowledge that might be able to help: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f-type-x152-72/

You might want to give that a try as well.

Arne, thanks, I've tried that now. Seems like a tough question though... might just need to try and hope for the best. :)

Hello Jonas,

See below my invoice for the work carried out by my Jaguar dealer...

Yes indeed it helps! That verifies all part numbers on my list except for my side vents... not sure what happened there, but looks like I have an older part number there.

Thanks a lot!

Edit: Also, you didn't get the front grille surround changed at Jaguar, but I'll just assume I have the right part number there. I was more worried that I had missed something. Thanks again!
