F Type not downshifting when accelerating

Morning all,

Hope someone may be able to help diagnose a rare issue I'm experiencing.

I've had the car for around 17 months now, and sometimes when I put my foot down to accelerate, the car will just stay in the gear it's in and won't downshift.
So I could be cruising at around 40mph in 6th or 7th, then put my foot down and it'll stay in that gear.
Sport mode isn't engaged and neither is dynamic mode at this point.
I know I'm depressing the accelerator enough too, as when I notice it starts to happen, I'll put my foot all the way to the floor and it'll still not downshift into a lower gear.

It's just like a really long hesitation from the car.

Admittedly, this has only happened 2 or 3 times but it's a little concerning none the less.

I know on certain autoboxes that the oil filter and oil requkre replacing when this happens. Not sure if this is the same with Jaguars though.

Thanks mate.

The auto box is due an oil change at the next service this Summer, according to the service schedule anyway, so maybe that'll solve it.
I was thinking this could be a possible cause, but wasn't certain.
 
In the past, ZF boxes have exhibited a "lurch" when coming to a stop when the fluid needs changing. When you say "long hesitation", can you put a time on it - mine can be a little sluggish downshifting when in D and I've been pootling around. Maybe a couple of seconds, though it always seems longer!

Well each time it's happened, I've had my foot planted for at least 4-5 seconds and all that happens, is the car struggles to accelerate, as it's in such a high gear for the speed, so out of caution, I'll lift off.

I feel like if I kept my foot planted for longer, it still wouldn't downshift.

And then I have to manually downshift. It's strange.

Sort of feels similar to when you accelerate with the car in snow/ice mode.

Yes, it could be the car not being able to snap itself out that slow cruising driving style, but hard to tell.
If that was the case though, I'd have thought it would've happened more frequently.
 
The issue you’re having could be caused by incorrect transmission fluid level as explained in the attached TOPIx file. Here’s a couple of extracts from it.....

“LOW FLUID LEVEL: A low fluid level could result in poor transmission engagement, slipping, or damage. This could also indicate a leak in one of the transmission seals or gaskets.”

“This vehicle is not equipped with a fluid level indicator. An incorrect level may affect the transmission operation and could result in transmission damage.”

Thanks mate, that's interesting.
Again though, I feel as though it would happen a lot more frequently if that were the case.

I'll have the auto transmission oil changed at the next service so will see if that sorts it.

Worth checking for any transmission oil leaks at the same time. If the oil change doesn’t sort it something else to consider is the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
