F-Type 2.0

I saw an F-Type 2.0 last night near Rugby. The exhaust pipe gave it away and it's more Porsche-like. It's not my cup of tea. It's a shame.

I live in rugby and it was parked outside my shop a few weeks ago... the lack of noise and single porshe looking tailpipe gave it away..

Dealer reckons demos end of July. Think I will try one back to back with V6 even though I think I know the answer!

The latest 4 cylinder engines can be made very powerful with forced induction and sophisticated engine management systems but have have no place in a proper sports car (porsche included) in my opinion, they just don't sound right and leave you feeling they are only there for cost.

Totally agree and whilst power outputs may be high and fuel economy great, they end up as a compromised drive. On one hand the engine spinning up to high revs to get power and the 0-60 performance, then an 8 speed box holding overly high gears to gain fuel economy. That leaves them droning along.
Still - same arguments have been around for diesel Jags and 4 cyl XF's, but if they keep Jaguar going and profitable it's inevitable.

I suspect they will drop the 340ps V6 and replace it with the 2.0 litre. they will then decide to stop the 380ps and replace it with the 400ps.
We will then have the 2.0 litre 4 cylinder, the 400ps V6 and the 5.0 V8.
Thoughts....??

Cayman owners lured by the on paper performance of the 4pots are returning to the 6's as in the real world the economy is not there, the sound is not there and once specced not really any cheaper ....

Big Bri ... the 300, 400, V8 and I guess SVR makes sense as clear steps ....

great comments, just returned from 150 miles drive in lincs, half with top down, in my V8s and loving the car, really quick and with the top open the soundtrack is second to none. Best sports car Ive owned and I've had one or two..

I was offered a brand new 2.0 with r pack for under 50 k was rather tempted for a bit being a brand new car and latest face lift and spec it to ones tastes, but I just couldn't get over the fact it was only a four cylinder and there was no test drives available, I was rather spoiled previously in a m3 4.0 v8 and that was a gem, I feared every time I pressed the the load pedal I was going to be disappointed

The main issue i have with the 2.0 is that some of the sound is piped through the speakers! Thats not what i want out of a car.

Some cars are not about fuel economy as a high priority imo.

I know someone who drove on today. Said it was extremely quick and great sound. Guess magazines will be reviewing shortly.

I think the 2 litre makes a lot of sense as an entry level for those on limited funds. The performance figures are good, the fuel economy better than the V6, lower emissions etc etc. You still get that lovely F type shape and I have to say that I quite like the single large square exhaust. Compared to the 340 V6, the price difference is enough for some nice optional extras to be added. Jaguar seem very proud of the 2l in terms of performance and balance ( and artificial noise) so it must be decent enough.

I have just ordered the 340 V6 because I got a great deal but I was looking very closely at a 2 litre. Like others have said, my suspicion is that the 340 will be phased out as on paper the performance figures of the 2l are close enough to have an entry 2l, mid range 389/400 S and upper end V8s.

It does make sense if you're Jaguar.. it just muddies the F Type image a bit for me.
There's nothing special about a 4pot turbo engine to me. Its not a GT engine for a GT car like the F Type.

Its going to remove some of the exclusivity of owning/seeing F Types around because they will be that much more affordable

I couldn't contemplate a 3.0L knowing a V8 5.0L was an option. I don't think any less of the V6, it's just me and how I am.

I know they're not GT cars but with a 2.0L turbo, 4 pot Impreza or Evo, 500 BHP/500 lbs/ft is fairly easily achievable and pretty loud. I know, I had a 470/450 Impreza 8 years ago.

Saw the 2.0 at the fab new Milton Keynes showroom looked great in corris with gyrodene wheels. Didn't get to hear the engine though

My local dealer had their first 2.0 roll out the showroom the other day. I didn't see it but was told it sounded terrible. They said they've got better sounding XEs!

I'm sure it still looks great but if it's missing the sound then that's missing one of the best parts of an F-type.
