Do not buy from Sytner

Hi All,

Just a short story and message to not buy cars from Sytner at least not from Sytner Solihull and maybe Jaguar Salmon in Coventry (belongs to Sytner)

My Ftype started making a metallic/ringing noise from the exhaust which was later identified to be caused by a solenoid in the rear box. Sytner warranty has refused the repair as it doesn't cover exhausts which i couldn't argue with, however....

I have found in my documents something called Sytner Customer Charter which states that the exhaust is covered indeed. I have Spoke to some sort of customer service manager at Sytner Solihull who sounded like a broken record and kept repeating that this is wear and tear and its the characteristic (love this word) of the F-types as it happens on all of them. I tried explaining that wear tear can be on tyres, breaks, seats, trims, etc but not on a part that is faulty and also mentioned the forum that hardly any have this issue, and if they had then it was replaced.

I am still awaiting a call back from Jaguar Coventry (not much hope here) as Sytner Solihull won't authorize it.

Just wondering if you have any suggestions on how to approach this or am I only left with going via the ombudsman?

Apologies for a little rant :)

Always worth a try with the main twitter account. I've seen several people complain about customer service to various manufacturers on twitter and they always reply pretty quickly asking them to chat via DM. They don't like that sort of stuff out in public and so will often try to resolve it pretty swiftly.

Shame it doesn't occur to them to sort it out before it goes public ... :?

Hello Brozi93,

Had similar experience with a Jaguar main dealer. I’m certain I purchased my car, Jaguar Used Approved, with the exhaust fault. Can recall the brief metallic grinding noise shortly after start-up. Didn’t consider an issue until nearly a year of ownership & reading up on here.

When fault was diagnosed they stated exhausts not covered. I’m of the persuasion to not argue so stumped up for new back box. Did use the warranty for diff seal leak & replaced rear subframe so feel I got something out of it.

Was more happy to have it working properly.

Good Luck with a resolution 👍

However, the warranty states "Consequential Damage is also included, this protects against the failure of a non-covered mechanical or electrical component as a consequence of failed mechanical or electircal component covered by the warranty."

So, the valve, which isn't the exhaust, fails and renders the exhaust faulty so should be replaced under warranty. Several people on here have had this done.

Open a case with Jaguar Customer Relations

I will give it a go even tho I did t buy directly from Jaguar approved but maybe they could help.

I was raging at the Sytner Solihull today and had to stop myself from few nasty words 😂

Got bad feeling that it won’t be sorted and it will result in ombudsman

Quick update - Jaguar Coventry will talk to Sytner Solihull hopefully today but I have literally zero hope as the service guy from Coventry said that he kind of believes that my fault is wear and tear which i am struggling to understand how is this wear and tear but hey..

I am also awaiting for the JLR customer service centre to get back to me regarding the same complaint.

will keep you posted

You don't say when you purchased it, but assuming in the last 6 months (or at least the fault reported in that time) the fault will be covered under normal consumer credit law. You don't need to prove anything, simply the fault will be deemed as pre-existing so will be replaced under law.

Had exactly the same issue on mine and garage (non-Jaguar) fitted a new back box without issue

Sorry - i am still under warranty until end of July and this was diagnosed back in March. Do i just mention normal consumer credit law to them or do i have to go via somebody to enforece this?

Apologies for the stupid question.

I had a similar siruation with a 2010 XKR which developed what was eventually diagnosed as a wiring fault. The selling dealer told me that wiring faults weren't covered under warranty and would require 6 hours labour(!) to drop the rear axle to access the faulty area. I emailed the dealer princical explaining that I wasn't too woried about the warranty cover since it was a pre-existing fault under the Sale of Goods act and should be fixed by the seller. Miraculously, they found that the warranty did in fact cover it (anything to avoid them paying for it, eh?)..
