Did they change the V8 exhaust noise volume?

Hi

I read on the US forum about complaints that the model year 18 and forward V8 versions are more quiet and have less cracks and pops. And in general after a software update the noise changed.
I have not heard this elsewhere. Can anyone here confirm this or might this only be a US software thing Jaguar did?

Because I am really interested in buying this car but not if it doesn't sound like how the R has always sounded:

My MY18 is loud and proud. So either later MYs or North America only?

That's what I am wondering because in the link many of them are complaining about California laws so maybe it's only there. But it seems like it's a software update that caused this and the update was made for older models too there.

Yeah, I had the update when my car went in for a fix to the rear parcel shelf. The only thing I noticed that changed was that dymanic mode no longer remains set for up to 6 hours after use, it now resets to off on every ignition cycle.

At least in Germany and most of the EU the V8 is definitely different than before if you buy a new one or the old model receives a certain update. This is because regulations are stricter now, e.g. AMG models also are quieter.

It's not even the volume that is different, the car is still insanely loud but the V8 just doesn't crackle and pop as much as before and is more dampened. The same seems to kind of apply to the V6 although the difference here is not that noticeable.

Thats crazy, one of the reason's I bought the V8 was for the "sound" of a true V8, not an electric motor or tuned down 4 or 6 cylinder which uses the car entertainment system to replicate the sound of a V8.
I'm surprised this is being experienced in the USA where the Corvette and Dodge Hellcat is produced.
The looks and sound of the F type is what makes it "special".
Then again, I also heard the Aston Marton DB11 which uses the 4.2L V8 from Mercedes and that was just as sonorous as the F Type.

Furthermore, my FT is a 2016 and it was launced in 2013, and I certainly find that those from 2013 were way too aggressive (ride handling and sound).

Even with the V8's, unless one revs it beyond 2000 rpm (I mostly drive between 1500-2000rpm), it's quite quiet.

V6 and mostly driven above 2000 rpm - it's a pedestrian safety feature :D

Our speed limit's here are around 60-80km/hr urban and 120 km/hr on the Freeway, so it sort of get's up to those speeds and sit's < 2000 RPM for most of the time. Even at 120 on the freeway, it's quite sedate.

then again, I'm no "pocket rocket" driver.
I hope the previous owner was equally staid.

Well mine is the V8 R 2017 & I still amazes me how Jaguar got away with it. In normal driving mode it is a purring pussycat. With the Valve open button pressed it sounds great on acceleration. Then switch to Dynamic mode & sport mode, the car turns in to a total nutter The loudest standard exhaust I have ever heard & the most ridiculous pops & bangs. Love it. Always keep a box of tissues in glove box for passenger's.

The only 18 or newer I have heard going all out is this one and it sounds pretty loud but I don’t know. German car.
