Depreciation

Jags since 66

Do people actually buy brand new F types? Having just paid £67K for a 9 month old 2016 spec F type R AWD convertable with less than 5K miles on the clock from a Franchised dealer, I went on the Jaguar website and costed the car when it was brand new and was staggered to find it would have been £109K on the road! OK it was a Jaguar Coventry Car used by one of their execs but who <span style="line-height: 16.8px;">in their right mind would buy anything that was going to depreciate at the rate of £4,200 pcm? I expect to keep the car for 2 years and then upgrade to an SVR at a similar discount - hopefully not taking such a hit on the depreciation of my recent purchase. We must really love our cars!</span>

I bought my 2013 V6S a year and a half ago, I know the italian car market is different to that of the UK but Ive just done a search on Autoscout website and it appears that an average of ‚¬2000 has dropped for what I paid for mine at ‚¬65k, Im happy with that! <div>But to be honest even if the price had dropped half of what I paid for the car is still priceless to me<img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /></div>

I think it's all relative. <div>Some buy new at 100k and loose 50k pretty rapidly - but hey they can afford it.<div>I buy at 50k and loose 25k over a few years and accept it's part of the deal</div><div>Joe normal buys at 15k and thinks it's a raw deal when his car's only worth 5k in 5 years time.</div><div><br></div><div>Someone once told me money has no intrinsic value unless you spend it so buy the best car you can afford and enjoy it.</div><div>Sounded reasonable to me - One life - live it.</div><div><br></div></div>

<div><br></div><div>Totally agree Big Bri, enjoy the blasted car and stop worrying about depreciation!</div>

I agree Big Bri. You only live once and you might as well spend it before the government takes it off you.<div><br></div><div>I bought a new one because I like to know how it's been treated, especially with a car like this that needs careful running in (see the manual) and I plan to keep it for 10+ years. </div><div><br></div><div>The F-Type is bought with the heart not the head.</div><div><br></div>

<div><br></div><div>Well said!</div><div><br></div><div>If you worry too much about depreciation you can't afford it really.</div><div><br></div><div>I bought mine ex demo and saved loads too :)</div>

I agree, I bought mine at 11 months old and saved about £35k on the configurator price. I wanted and AWD coupe and decided the R was for me. They appear to be fairly rare (not surprised at 103.5k new with the options) I plan to keep it forever. Run it and run it and run it until it's dead and then stick it in a garage and sell it in 40 years and hopefully make some cash!
