Dashcam & rear one

I am sure some members have these fitted, any recommendations on where.
I was looking at the windscreen earlier and with all the added boxes and covers it would look like it has to be positioned halfway down the windscreen.
I have had a search on the forum but it returns limited info..
Thank you as always

The front camera does need to be a couple of inches to the left of the mirror boxes, else the view to the right is obscured too much. From the passenger seat it's out of the way and not as bad as it appears, much less obvious when sat in the car

mickjaguar, many thanks for the info and pictures. Offsetting was an option that i was looking at, the camera is more cylinderical [blackvue dr750+] so a part of it could sit on the "black dots".
Im not too far from Chi....

I've just bought a Thinkware U1000 front & rear system. I haven't got around to fitting it yet, so no proper pictures, but the front camera will sit neatly above the mirror. It is about the size of a cigarette packet and sits flush to the screen.

The Blackvue was the other camera I would choose. In the end I went with two separate Garmin ones, as they have parking mode built in when hard wired. G sensor in the rear one sometimes thinks it's had an incident when I floor it from standstill! Probably a combination of motion and noise from the exhaust 🤣.

Put them in place with masking tape to begin with and use live view to work out the best location.

"G sensor in the rear one sometimes thinks it's had an incident when I floor it from standstill! Probably a combination of motion and noise from the exhaust🤣." - Love it probably not on the A27 though😂

It being a new area for me [hence why i asked] i have contacted a few suppliers/installers to give me some ideas, one of which seems to be knowledgeable about JLR products.
Also it seems to be quite a minefield concerning wiring connections, park mode, battery drain, external battery etc etc.
I do run an a late 60's car sometimes with gopros attached, perhaps that's the easier option.....

Depends what you are looking for the cameras to do. Cigarette lighter socket in the arm rest will power them when driving, as this socket is only live when the ignition is on, but this does lose park mode etc. Easy enough to route the cables around, to only appear when going into the very back of the armrest next to the hinges.

Thanks mick, i will wait and see what is proposed, i dont like visible wires but i dont want a flat battery🙁.
if ever you are in port solent, let me know....

Would be great to see final pictures of the thinkware u1000 install… looks like a potentially neat solution with minimal visual interference.

What’s the picture quality of this kit? Any good compared to blackvue and garmin?

Txs

My vote is the U1000. There rear camera can hardly be seen from the front, the front camera is flat and out of the way behind the mirror, will try and get a picture of the front one tomorrow.

This is for a front camera only, if plugged directly under the armrest this is all you see. It took me 20 minutes to run the cable in, it’s really not that difficult. The cable does leave a small indent where it tucks under closed armrest.
