Hi there,
I've wanted to buy an F-Type V6S for ages and finally got serious about the search this year. I'm quite close to buying a 2015 year V6S from a used dealer. However, when I was enquiring about a gap in the official service history between 2020 and 2024, they told me that it was done by an independent, but didn't provide any paperwork. When I pushed a bit, it eventually came out that it had been in for a fairly significant (and expensive) engine overhaul in 2022.
The issue was a misfire (fault codes - injector 4: permanent open circuit fault code, injector 5: intermittent open circulated) from failed fuel injectors due to water ingress from the bonnet vents, which I understand is not an uncommon issue in these models. However, it seems like the repairs under the previous owner were quite extensive, and required the garage to remove the cylinder head in order to remove the fuel injectors which had stuck due to corrosion after attempts to remove them with a slide hammer failed. One injector had to be drilled out, another hammered out from the reverse side, and the final four removed with the slide hammer tool. From the paperwork it seems at least 3 of the injectors were replaced - presumably the two most corroded and one other.
During the overhaul the car also had the supercharger stripped down, cleaned, bearings removed and replaced, and new gasket fitted, as well as some other bits and pieces from other components replaced - mostly seals and gaskets.
Am I right to assume that there's a fairly significant risk of other fuel injectors seizing similarly over time, which could require equally expensive repairs in the not too distant future, or am I being unreasonable?
Thanks in advance!
