Condensation in brake light by shark fin

Hi everyone,

Just started cleaning the car and noticed condensation in the rear brake light at the top of the tailgate by the shark fin.

It looks like its a sealed unit and the inside plastic trim needs to come off to get at it,

Typically my extended warranty has only just expired, any thoughts or experience with this please and how much would a new unit cost approx please?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thank you in advance,

Kind regards,

Steve

Mines got that too, but not that bad. I blamed it on over exuberant use of power washer. I’m not sure if it’s a easy job to remove, I have a feeling it might be bonded in.

Mine is the same it's been there for weeks, I do not use a pressure washer.
Number plate bulbs get water in too. Probably just a poor design.

Yes, apparently it’s a sealed unit that is not designed to be serviced other than as a complete unit.

Doesn't look like a big job as it takes 0.3 hrs according to the removal & installation instructions (coupe).

I take it that you have found this link.......

Yes I did thanks and yes it’s a sealed unit so now I just need to source one then I might have a go...

I wonder how common this problem on this unit is...?

Not sure how common the problem is?.......I have a 2016 model and mine is ok.

Probably nothing to do with it but I never wash my car with a high pressure washer.

I’ve attached the full exterior lighting file for the 2015 F-Type (X152).........you may find some more details on the high mounted brake/stoplamp?

Thanks for that, lots of useful information in there for future use and there’s an exploded view of the unit on page 120,

I’ll certainly steer the jet wash around it in future just in case 👍

I think the exploded view on page 120 is for vehicles with a folding top as it says this under the description........

“The high mounted stop lamp is located under the trailing edge of the deployable spoiler on the luggage compartment lid. The lamp is secured to the luggage compartment lid with four bolts and washers concealed under a bezel, which clips onto the lamp. A gasket seals the interface between the lamp and the luggage compartment lid.”

No harm in steering the jet wash around it in future.

Good luck 👍

Before you remove anything, just spend half an hour with a hairdryer and try to warm it up enough to get the droplets to vapour.

You may find it handy to remove the trim to allow the vapour out.

It's very common in headlights and rears, not so in brake and number plate housings.

Frank here, my16 s coupe storm grey with brogue interior ivory stitching performance seats. Shouldn’t your jag be covered under the 5 year 60,000 warranty. I hope you all are ok under these difficult time, but the UK has been there before, all the best.

Just about to say for christ sake cant Jaguar get anything correct these days
but can't be bothered .. back to my BBQ

Thanks Tel, I’ll give the hairdryer a go, maybe when I get to the back of it there could be some holes to tease the vapour through 👍

Frank my car came with standard 3 year JLR warranty and I paid to extend it for a further year which expired last month. Thanks for your kind words yes we’re bearing up, greetings from across the pond, keep safe and well...

BBQ is always a good plan Kaspa ;)

To be fair it’s the first issue I’ve had with the car, I’ve been pleased with it and it still drives perfect!
