Cold Start Typical Sound Level

I've been thinking that my car sounds quite soft and mentioned it before on the forum that one normal driving 120km/hr or even in city driving, it's like driving a sedan.
Recently bought a sound level meter and found on cold start it registers a max of 77-79 db, normal idling this drops to 60db.

Has anyone else undertaken this and what were the results out of interest.

The exhaust valves are open when the car is started but close straight away.

Yours might but mine don't. I gues it's MY dependent so let's not mislead people with blanket staements that are clearly not right in all cases. My valves take around a minute to close after a cold start.

Ran a test today using a sound meter app on my phone that I find quite accurate and consistent. Here are the stats for those interested in the subject:

MY18 V6 manual, no GPF, PZero tyres, mixed road surfaces, fuse 15 out (valves open all the time)

Cold start (50cm from the exhaust pipes)
90dB for about 20 seconds then it settles at 82dB

Noise while driving (within the cabin)
Idling: 62dB
Cruising: 75dB
1st Gear @4,000 rpm: 86dB
2nd Gear @4,000 rpm: 85dB

I have basically the same car as OP here - having removed fuse 15 I'd estimate my cold start-up decibels as "deeply antisocial for the neighbours". Pootling around even with fuse 15 removed though, whilst it pops and bangs on overrun it isn't too noisy. But anything more than a third throttle and it gets loud. It is only really noisy inside the cabin when revving it hard though.

Remove fuse 15 and give it a go. And don't then lose it like me!

no, just 2 or 3 seconds

…. MY exhaust is very loud for ages after a cold start until the tickover revs drop.

Same with my car….
I bought it for the theatrics, and to irritate the close neighbour - otherwise I’d have gone electric 😵‍💫
