Choice of 2 V6 F Types...

New member
I am currently on the hunt for my first F Type and narrowed it down to the following two...

Both meet my basic requirements of;
Minimum 380 bhp
Pan roof
Reversing camera and parking aids
performance seats
Active suspension and programmable performance set up
Desirable (to me) colour
FSH

Neither of them have heated seats that I wanted but its not a deal breaker

First is a 2017 400 sport with 40k on the clock
https://www.valentinesspecialistcars.co.uk/vehicle/jaguar-f-type-30-v6-400-sport-auto-euro-6-ss-2dr-in-bristol-gloucestershire-fb546604-6a52-4dfa-acbd-b15b00e357e4

The second is a 2019 R Dynamic with 15k on the clock
https://www.rivieraautomotive.co.uk/vehicle-details/used-jaguar-f-type-v6-r-dynamic-for-sale-in-cleckheaton-west-yorkshire-u862/

The only thing putting me the 2019 car is it may have a gpf, but I understand there is a way I can make it sound like the older style exhaust? Also I like the bigger screen in the 2019 model.

What do you think guys, which should I go for?

I guess removing fuse 15 will help with the sound of the 2019 car. It's a tough call. The 400s are almost as rare and special as the manual transmission models. But 2019 is the last year of the V6. Drive both if you can and then make the decision. If you get the registration plate numbers, forum member SimpleR might be kind enough to give you their history.

For me, the 2019. In no particular order it’s a: Newer car, Less tax from from 2025, very low mileage, nicer interior and wheels, it doesn’t have the fixed wing spoiler ( personally not my taste ). It does have the heated steering wheel and screen, I thought this also came with heated seats? Try them both, check for FSH, get the reg or better still the vin and you can look up service history yourself. Definitely ask “Simple R” on here if he can look them up for you.

They’re both stunning cars. As the guys say ask SimpleR nicely and he’ll check out the history of both for you. If they both come back good after a test drive in both go with your gut. For me and what I’ve seen of them I would go for the 400 sport. Why? Because it’s different, not many about and it’s got that flat bottomed steering wheel which looks epic! :)

No connection with the garage selling the 2017 400, but they are local to me and I test drove an F Type earlier in the year (not this one). The owner is a decent chap and I only didn't buy the one we drove because I wasn't sure if I wanted a convertible or coupe (their was a coupe).

The 400 Sport is VU17YDE and is an MY18 spec car (all 400 sports are MY18 or MY18.5 with blind spot assistance as standard instead of an option) and is car 47361.
Current sales video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoO9C_uDl54

Registered 1st March 2017 so is higher tax band (rates changed 1st April 2017).
Currently untaxed and no valid MOT but MOT history looks OK, annoying when they put a fail down for wipers. You would think they would quickly call the owner and put on a new set and just pass it. It has the white interior stitching (mine does too) as opposed to the default yellow stitching.

It does not have GPF filter but it has had all three H239 updates applied - search the forum for info.

PDI
1st Feb 2017 via Paragon Fleet Solutions. This is V plate car which back in 2017 would of typically been a Jaguar car used for something however based on the ownership changes it may of been privately owned.

1st owner (Unknown)
Registered 1st March 2017

Service (1st) 9th May 2018 - 15,721 miles

2nd owner (Private)
Picked it up on 21st Jan 2019 and it went onto a private plate of S8PFN. Returned to original plate on 9th March 2022. The private plate is now on a P450 MY21 so presume that owner upgraded.

Service (2nd) 28th June 2019 - 20,417 miles

Service (3rd) 31st July 2020 - 27,601 miles - Not itemised

Service (4th) 21st August 2021 - 33,348 miles - missed rear diff oil change

Service (5th) 19th April 2022 - 37,882 miles (with spark plugs which is correct)

3rd owner (Private)
Picked it up on 29th April 2022. MOT expired 10th April 2024 and on sale since 23rd April.

Service (6th) 6th July 2023 - 41,011 miles

So you would be the 4th owner. (Will only show as two previous owners on any car check as car is with dealer so last owner not yet recorded).
Next service due July 2024. (Just an oil change but please check that rear diff oil was done - mine was black and horrible at 35k miles so this will need doing).

As with any used car, take it for a spin (after it's been MOT'ed) and always get a check such as Car Vertical.

The other one is DA19XZN and is an MY20 spec car (with GPF) and is car 65695.

Nothing online for it, although I note it appears to have the 770W surround sound system?
MOT Due next week
Road tax will be £190 but may still have that annoying luxury tax still applicable for a short while.

PDI - 26th June 2019 at Jaguar Crewe

1st owner (Private)
Registered 28th June 2019

Service (1st) - 1,558 miles at Jaguar Derby (fully itemised and correct)

Service (2nd) - 2,347 miles at Jaguar Derby (fully itemised and correct)

2nd owner (Private)
Picked it up on 19th November 2021 and put it on private plate T1CCF (now on a Z4).

Service (3rd) - 3,456 miles at Jaguar Brighton (fully itemised and correct)

18th October 2022 - Changed back to original plate
12th January 2023 - Back onto T1CCF
6th May 2023 - Changed back to original plate

3rd owner (private)
Picked it up on 30th June 2023

18th April 2024
On sale.

So you would be the 4th owner. (Will only show as two previous owners on any car check as car is with dealer so last owner not yet recorded).
There is no service history after 3rd service in June 2022. Regardless of miles covered it should be serviced so check for paperwork. If there is paperwork for missing 4th service then it can be added to the online service history. 4th service should include rear diff oil. 5th service due next month.

As with any used car, take it for a spin (ensure seller MOT's it and services it including rear diff and spark plugs) and always get a check such as Car Vertical.

Oooo, Riviera Automotive...I have a story about them and their warranty. Long story short; bought an F-Type (HY 16 XOT) from them in July 2023, dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree a few weeks later, car went back to them, I rejected it in November(!) after them making all sorts of promises to get it sorted, they cleared the finance in January 2024, eventually got some of my deposit back a month or so later, still ongoing and going fully legal with them now. One of their salesmen, Billy, suggested I make a claim on the warranty a few weeks later...the warranty they hadn't set up yet, so this would've been a fraudulent claim as it was a pre-existing condition. Hundreds of phone calls to them, and they didn't even have Zoom or Teams to have a video call with my representative, but don't let my experience put you off...😉

I'd go for the 400, not that I'm biased or anything, but they are quite a rare and special car

The P400 has two photos clearly showing heated seats.

The V6 R Dynamic has heated front screen and steering wheel which are part of a Climate Pack, so I'm pretty sure include heated seats.

You're in a win-win situation whichever way you go. Personally I love the grey with the red contrast interior. I'm not a fan of the fixed wing either, so I'd go for the V6 R Dynamic 😁

Go and try both of them and have a good look round.

The 400 looks like it has climate seats, so heated and cooled. Definitely heated as it only has 6-way seats where as the default was 12-way not heated. It also running an odd Yokohama tyre for some reason. And no MOT.

Have a really good look at both of them. Both of them have had three previous owners you didn't want to keep them for some reason.

Cheers SimpleR, you are a godsend mate👍🏾

ThanksKev. It's important for me that the dealership is decent and trustworthy. Did you hear from anyone else that had a problem? Do you think it's a dodgy salesman or the whole dealership?

No handover pack upon delivery down to me should’ve rang alarm bells, not returning calls when I contacted them, telling me it had gone to a Jag Dealer to be worked on then for me to ring Jag only to find out it was still in their compound, even Riviera’s own Service Manager not buying a car from themselves. When you’re dropping £30K+ on a car (or no matter what amount) you would expect to receive a level of service. I bought my 400 from a Jag Dealer in Buckinghamshire, smooth process, no dramas as you’d expect plus a proper warranty. The 400 was a grand or so more expensive than the V6S but it was post-facelift, better spec, cheaper VED so it turned out to be a better deal #manmaths

How can you tell?

Picture 23 in the montage shoes the 3 rotary knobs of the climate control system. The right hand knob is showing a picture of a seat with hot & cold bars on either side, illustrating heated seats. This display usually shows the temperature to which the climate control is set. Pressing the knob once, changes the function of the knob from adjusting climate control temperature to heated seat activation & adjustment.

Btw, if the left hand & right hand knob show different temperatures, you can tell that the car is fitted with individual climate control for driver & passenger.

Brilliant cheers gents😊

Meridian surround, fresher look, less mileage, larger screen, heated seats (both), easy pick for me.
