Chat with service manager.

Had chat with service manager from major dealer.

Confirmed general concerns of forum:

1. Diff are a problem on f type and Aston Martins' also have same issue. Regular oil changes required.

2. Rear sub frame rust, replacements no better than original's, better off treating yourself.

3. If requested they will not update software. Don,t just drop your car off for service and walk out, talk to them asks the questions to understand what they going to do. (They can,t read your mind).

4. Jaguar concerned where all cars over 3 yrs old are going for service. Possibility of new scheme to come to keep older cars coming back. (20% off labour and parts would be a good start).

5. Interestingly indepentent dealers on the south coast have been known to take our cars there if they get stuck with a fault....

Sounds interesting, the "20% off" service offer.

Would be a good idea for JLR to make it possible for owners to buy "approved" insurance, when keeping their own car.

So many makes offer 5-7yrs warranty, that if you want to compete its almost a "must" to offer this.

I have 2016 BMW tourer 216i as a shopping trolley. I bought it 2yrs old with 2yrs full warranty and 3yrs service remaining from the 5yrs the 1st owner bought.

When it was about to lapse, I got an quote to extend it to 7yrs (max. 100.000km, for max. 150.000 its more), for € 240 !!!

This means 2x 2yr services, oil changes, brake fluid and filters. Just one service would have been € 160.

Then, they gave me 2yrs free extension of the maps subscription, as they did not produce every 3 mnts an update, but once every 6/7 months..

All in all a very good example of how litte gestures can keep a client (very) happy. Its that I don't fit in the X3/5/7 ( but do fit in the tourer..),

otherwise the changes would have been considerable for me to have bought an X-car instead of the F-Pace or the D5.

Now I'm looking for the F-type at extension for "in control" at € 480 for 2yrs ( I need T&T for my insurance), while I also bought it for my D5 !!

If they want to enhance brand loyalty, they could do the second JLR car "50% off" these rates : I can only drive one car at the time...

Good info Fez. Regarding main dealer servicing, there is a scheme in place. November i received an email for my main dealer. The scheme has a snazzy title, which I’ve forgot 😄

Just had my service, MOT & spark plug replacement at main dealer. Came to £460.00 all in, which I thought was very competitive. Great service, courtesy car etc.

Software update. First question owners should ask is if there are any outstanding? If so, as said, you can decline the work. Ensure a note is put on your service record & I’d also double check & confirm when dropping car off.

If you ask a dealer not to flash software, or wash your car, whatever. They might write it on the job sheet too. But some clown might still do it. I recommend leaving a big sign inside the car as well, to warn the guy actually doing the work.

It's the little gestures that can make a big difference.

I've just had the subframe braces replaced (dissappointing to hear the new ones are no better) that should have been done under warranty. It was first reported before the 3-years were up. My car got caught in lock-down at a dealers for 6 months. When it came to negotiating with Jaguar (HQ) they started backpedalling on the original agreement. I was initially told not to worry about it being in lock-down, that then turned into we'll fund 80%. They upped it to 90% but I was still not happy they wouldn't honour the original discussion. The retailer stumped up the 10% shortfall in the end.

In the big scheme of things this is peanuts to Jaguar who should have done the right thing from the outset. In the end I got the correct outcome but it's left a nasty taste in my mouth with Jaguar (HQ). Completely avoidable.

Do the bean counters not realise the economic impact of such behaviour when it comes to the customer replacing their car?
(I ditched Mercedes after sharp/illegal practice in attempting to obtain money by deception by their dealer network. And on more than one occassion.)

Brand loyalty is extremely valuable (Think Harley Davidson where customers will get tattoo'd with the brand.) and gets better results than an expensive salesman.

You need to check what the software up date involves. H256 Noise latch, is designed to make you car quieter!!

H256 does not make your car quieter. As such.

The car forgets dynamic mode at every ignition cycle. That's all it does. So by default makes the car start in normal mode with active exhaust off. Nothing stopping you selecting dynamic mode and then starting the car.

Agree, Simple R, I was just keeping it simple. I think it does something to software to stop actuators opening at tick over, moves it to 1500-1800rpm. Hence making your quieter by default in dynamic or on exhaust button until revs build...

On mine the only time the actuators are limited to not opening until around 1500 rpm is in non-dynamic mode with the exhaust button switched on. In dynamic mode the valves are open at tickover - it's very noticeable. It seems that the behaviour is MY specific, so YMMV.

Mine must have the new software as MY20 and it always goes back to normal mode after switching off, but the exhaust valves open with either the exhaust button or selecting dynamic mode at tickover, it’s clearly audible. No idea why this difference exists between model years.

Pedantically, mine doesn't revert to normal mode after switching off, it reverts on the next switch on - I know because the interior lights are red at first. ;)

I thought I was bad, you are a pedant of the highest order! I will now have to go and check mine!
