Hi everyone I’m struggling to work out how to set up car play on my 2018 ftype can anyone help me? Thanks bobby

What model year are you?

IE do you have physical buttons on the side of the head unit?

Brill. Hi and welcome. Pics always nice.

I'm sure someone with that head unit will be along soon to help out. (I have the previous one with buttons).

I have the 8" one with the buttons, too, but I understand that for the MY18 (assuming the 10th digit of your VIN is J or higher) with the 10" screen there's a software update that enables CarPlay and Android Auto. In a mad fit of Jaguar enthusiasm mine was done as a free update which supplied the necessary icons but the hardware doesn't support them, so there's a later update that takes them away again. With the bigger screen you should be okay.

I’m not sure how helpful this will be but for mine I just plug my iPhone into one of the USB ports and the screen automatically switches to CarPlay and then I can use all the available APPs, it has one icon for returning to the Jag infotainment if you wish. That was using software version S19C. I’m now up to version S21A.

There is no wireless CarPlay as standard and if you want that you’ll have to buy an aftermarket wireless dongle.

Thanks everyone for the information my tenth digit is j on the vin and I’m wrong about the buttons it does have them I’ll try and send a picture, regards the software update how do I go about getting that done?

The car does not support apple car play or android auto then.

Contact a dealer and ask if your car is eligible for the infotainment software update. But it won't help with CarPlay.

Yes. I have the same unit as yours. I listen to music via amazon music app with phone connected on Bluetooth.

Just connect your phone via the cars Bluetooth connection and any music on your phone will be available.

Or connect a music player via the USB.

You only need a wifi dongle if you want wireless CarPlay connection but your car doesn’t have CarPlay so irrelevant.
