Campaign SSM74031 X152 Under body brace corrosion

Screenshot from the "health check video" mine from last week, I think that counts as pretty corroded!

MY 2014 Dealer looking to replace through Jaguar. Will report back on progress.

Rob

A quick update to my situation - rear braces replaced this morning, the work only took a few hours at my dealer of choice, they also serviced the rear diff at the same time.

In summary, I am happy with the outcome. However having rust free rear x-braces does highlight just how horrible looking the rest of the underside looks.

Whilst it is all cosmetic, it's shocking that Jaguar think it's okay for a prestige vehicle to look like this in just 4 years. The budget S.Korean manufacturers don't even have this problem.

Help needed!
I had my F Type serviced at a dealership about 6 weeks ago. I asked them to check the cross braces for corrosion and explained about SSM74031. After the service I was informed that there was corrosion and that they had sent a report to Jaguar for approval to carry out the replacement work. They said they would be in touch as soon as they had a reply from Jaguar. So last week I decided to chase it up. The dealer now can't find having sent a report to Jaguar and they can't find the photographic evidence to show the corrosion! So about 5 phone calls later (despite getting assurances they would call me back) they now tell me that SSM74031 has completely disappeared from the Jaguar system and isn't there any more. Can anyone in the know cast any light on this.
Thanks for your help.
Mike

It has disappeared from Topix.

Mine was in for 2nd service a few weeks back and is booked in early July for replacement cross brace as I was told parts were on back order. Um.....

Mine is booked in for June 5th to be done. Raised it at the service in March, immediately agreed it needed attention, took it in in April and then the parts were on back order. I am told they now have the parts.

After I had mine replaced I sprayed everything with this (not on the exhaust or brakes obviously). 1 can aerosol was enough.

I figured it might help and it definitely makes the underside look nicer.

Mine went in for its service today at Matford Exeter. My first time there and cannot recommend them enough. Super service and a wonderful facility.
I had asked for the cross brace to be checked when I booked the car in. They have replaced a few already.
Result is not good though......they fully agree that the cross brace needs replacing but as others have said the SSM has disappeared.
Previously they would have just booked the car in for the work and submitted the photos and documents and would have been sure of a confirmation to carry out the work.
Now though, as there is no SSM they will have to go to Jaguar and try to get approval under the corrosion guarantee, but didn't seem overly confident.
Full of apologies and sympathy that if I had taken it in 2 months earlier it would have been done, their exact comment was that this was extremely unfair and hope that Jaguar will agree to the work. Mine is still under extended warranty.
Do not know what I will do if Jaguar refuse, but I will stay optimistic for now.

This is utterly bonkers - not sure what JLR are thinking here. Going public on an issue then just sweeping it under the carpet after a couple of months and pretending it never happened. Another reason Jag will never get a seat at the grown up table with the three German's. Very silly.

typical of manufacturers
use sub standard materials and have a limited time own up then panic when people want things that should never have been done put right
SHODDY and disregard for your customers and basically saying tough titty suckers we used cheap shit materials and told you you were buying a high end prestige car
my 2013 has done only 15000 mostly dry miles but had it been a all weather car wld need the braces doing and to have this level of corrosion in this day and age is beyond a joke

Mine spends the winter either in Southern Spain or in a demidified Carcoon and almost never driven in the rain. Still the cross member is rusty just from general atmospheric conditions. What salty winter driven cars must look like!

Asked to have mine checked at the last service, car has done just over 8k miles....yep all ok was the reply from Pentland Jaguars new dealership in Dundee.

New tyres a few days later so I had a look while it was up in the air....looks rusty to me...many photos in an email to Pentland gets a resulting phone call that the technical manager says its just surface corrosion.

Email to JLR customer services (and a named contact from a previous issue) with photos....yes they should be changed under the campaign....

Beware folks

I had mine done at Jaguar in Stockport in April just 2 days before the original 3 year warranty expired.
No arguments or excuses they just changed all of them....

Out of curiosity has anyone had this changed when they were outside of warranty?

I have a 14 plate, 10k miles, original owner garages and used in the summer.
Doesn’t need a service for another 8 months, I’m using as a daily so keen to get it looked at

Mine was replaced a month ago. A 2014 with extended warranty. The dealer submitted photographs to Jaguar and they agreed almost immediatelyto replace.

I am remaining positive as JLR have instructed the dealer to submit the appropriate forms, which were completed after a few questions.

My cross braces were changed but only after an exchange with my dealer. They had agreed to the work when I took the vehicle in for service in March (still just under warranty), entered it on their system and then rebooked for April when they would have the part. Came in in April and they hadn't ordered the part. Rebooked for early June once they told me they had the part and then they said the bulletin on this item had been withdrawn by Jaguar so it would cost me £1000 if I wanted the work done. I argued the bulletin was out when they originally agreed to do the work and they eventually came back and said they would do the work from their "goodwill" programme. TBH the braces were only lightly, surface corroded but its a keeper and I don't want problems later.
