Brand-new car needs some answers

I’ve never been so frustrated with a new Car in respect of trying to get questions answered. I’ve tried to contact Jaguar customer services but they don’t answer their telephone anymore. The dealer keeps giving me different answers to the same questions.

1. How many Sim cards are in this car. I’ve been told there are two. one for the general Wi-Fi use in the small cupboard near the armrest and another built into the car for the satnav.

2. In control app app has Guardian, which I’ve activated. Because it’s a new car, it comes with three years subscription which is working. However, when I get notifications, I can’t get any sound. I’m using an iPhone. So it seems pointless if it doesn’t notify me that my car may have been broken into or stolen.
3. Is it possible to use voice activation for any of the systems in the car other than can’t connect via Apple play.

I hope someone has the knowledge to help please. I know they sound minor in the scheme of things.

I don't know the answers to the first two questions but, unless there have been changes since 2020, there is no voice control without Apple Carplay or Android Auto. I found it a bizarre omission when I first got mine, having come from a pair of Mazda 3 cars (one a '10' plate) that had full voice dialling. The 'voice' button on the steering wheel allows you to answer a bluetooth call and hang up, but to voice dial you must have Android Auto or Apple Carplay running.

I’m not aware of there being two SIM cards. The nav uses the same slot under the armrest I believe.
I have only used Guardian mode once and don’t recall if I had noise at the notification but I shall t have my phone on silent anyway. Surely that’s a setting on the iPhone notifications and not an app issue?

There's a SIM in the TCU module (I think) that handles Jaguar's connection to the car for InControl, Tracker, s/w updates, etc.. The user SIM sits in the centre cubby and is for owner use including additional satnav features, hotspot, etc.

I'm not familiar with the newest models, but if they're like the earlier ones the volume levels are separate for the diferent functions (radio/media, satnav, parking sensors) so each has to be adjusted when the relevant function is active. Try winding the wick up when you get a notification!

🫢 I didn’t realise that, I thought you had to have a SIM in the armrest to use any of that stuff.

Only one SIM is "visible" - in the centre armrest. The other (Jaguar) one is embedded in the TCU module, I believe. Jaguar needs one to do stuff with the car, the other is needed for user data connectivity that Jaguar doesn't expect to have to pay for. In some newer Jaguar models (e.g. i-Pace) they use an e-SIM but I don't think that's been done for the F-Type. Correct me if I'm wrong.
