Brake pipe replacement

Hi,

Has anyone replaced the front brake pipes on their car, not the hose but the hard lines?
I was attempting to change the front driver side hose today and the brake pipe snapped at the union :roll:
It looks a PITA to route a new pipe as it runs right along the back of the engine bay.
Also, are these copper or steel lines, they're covered in a plastic coating.

You can get a pipe flaring tool to use in-situ, new coupling and away you go. Replacing the pipe will be something of a mission as it’ll go back to the ABS pump and be somewhat awkward
