Past week or so getting a really bad smell in the cabin on entering. It seem to generate when not in the car, It doesnt seem to come from the air vents

Just had a service and cabin filter is new.

Anyone had this or have any ideas.

Carpet is dry so cant find any leaks, its quite pungent,

Any idea of what the odour smells of? Does the car need one of those air conditioning deodorising antibacterial smoke bomb things to be pumped through the system? Anything been spilt in the boot area?

Since the carpets are dry (and I assume you've checked the properly inc. the boot). Even high humidity can get the area smelly. If that's eliminated as a cause, then I'd looking to the same point as Kev references of the aircon system.
Condensation in the evaporator can go musty and smell pretty foul and emit from any of the vents not just the face vents.
Car being closed just points to it building up when there is no airflow in the car.
Plenty of Youtube videos on fixing it with sprays, but I've never used one.

When using the Air con sanitiser bombs, put some plastic down and newspaper in the footwell, as they tend to spit a fair bit of liquid. In addition, protect the glove box lid from any splatter too. I had a car where the A/C was pretty musty, but two bombs cured it.

The other thing to try, to begin with, is to run the A/C on maximum fan with all the vents closed. If the evaporator drain is a bit blocked, this might blow it clear and any stagnant water that's sitting there.
