Automated start stop

Hi all

I picked up my F type on Sunday. Panels aligned, winter tyres ordered.

So far my only gripe is the automatic start/stop.

The orange light is active and the head up display says on.

The trouble is it hasn’t worked yet. Everything seems to be ok, battery, climate control, outside temp etc.

Any thoughts?

As I understand it, the auto stop/start only kicks in when the car thinks everything can cope with it, so if the battery voltage is a bit low or the engine's cold it won't operate. If your car has been sitting in a dealership for a while the battery may not be fully charged.

Turning stop/.start off is the first thing I do as I select drive, so if yours isn't working I'd say you have a result!

Also, a useful forum tip is to put your vehicle details in your signature block, then when asking for help we'll know which model and MY we're dealing with.

SCM has pretty much summed it up.
I was hoping this place would be a "stop start free zone" as it's one of those never-ending sagas on other Jaguar models.
On the XE forums there is a topic on it that has reached 55 pages and for many it still doesn't work and no definitive solutions either.
It's a combination of a flaky/overcomplicated battery charging system, a battery that is the cheapest they can get away with and all the various computer software that will stop it working if the car needs power for aircon or anything else, plus if it's low temperatures etc etc etc.
Please think of any other reason you can and that will probably be true too.
Like most, turning the hateful thing off has become part of my starting procedure, not that it has worked from day one anyway.

Mine are electric. But won’t fold.

Do you mean won't fold on locking, or when you try the manual method?

On my previous XKRs fold-on-lock was a user selectable option but on my MY18 R it's only dealer settable. I find that annoying because I like to disable it when the temperatures drop so they don't freeze folded in.

On the drivers side door where the buttons are to adjust mirrors.....



Press both buttons at the same time. If mirrors fold in then you have power mirrors. If not then you don't.

I think that is the easiest way to check...... ?

I believe Stop /start when active is green. Your message indicate you have orange, you sure you have it switched on.

Yes I push the 2 L/R mirror buttons nothing happens. So possibly not a feature.

Interesting as I have this hateful feature on my Evoque. No light when active, Amber when switched off i.e. not active

I had a 2011 Evoque and on the early ones the light was off on start-up and the stop start was off by default.
Now it seems those good folk at JLR are trying to annoy us by having it on by default on start up and the button illuminated when you dare to turn it off.
On the "sloon" I also get an icon in the corner off the dash when I switch it off to remind me I'm a climate change denier and a polar bear murderer.

Never had a problem with start/stop working on the F type, even after leaving the car for 4 weeks. The XE is a different story, as this only has one puny battery whereas the F type I believe has a separate battery for the stop/start. Both of our cars get frequent long trips, but the XE stop/start does give up occasionally and even 200+ miles of driving won't re-awaken it. 24 hours charging on a Ctek does bring it back to life. My guess is that it's very fussy about the battery state, which driving doesn't seem to rectify.

That extra battery was only fitted to the early models and was used to provide power for some of the electronic modules, not for actually starting the car. Im not sure which MY the switch was made, my MY18 has a single battery.
