Should be delivered at the end of September, wife is overjoyed with the prospect of another impractical car!!! (also have a Caterham).<br /><br />Did anyone do a factory tour? Also, are any of the gap / paint 'treatment' / body work / tyres and alloy insurances worth having?? Not bought a new car before so wouldn't mind getting a point of view.<br /><br />Oh, nearly forgot - Italian racing red, V6 s, exterior design and black pack, climate pack, parking pack, meridian 380, performance seats and few other boxes ticked...got a bit carried away!!!<edited><editID>Grasshopper</editID><editDate>2016-07-26 23:00:16</editDate></edited>

Alloy insurance, i love the alloy insurance! In london its been a godsend :) i also have the smart repair service which is at least paying for itself.<br /><br />Welcome to the club :) <br /><br />Jess

nice spec - mine was the first new car that id ever bought too and I went for the tyre / alloy wheel and minor damage insurance.<div><br></div><div>And the GAP insurance </div><div><br></div><div>I think the alloy wheel insurance was certainly worth it (I have to park on the road and have kerbed the wheels three times already) not sure yet about the tyre insurance (two punctures so far but both repaired for £15 ) or the minor damage insurance (thought it would cover stone chips and it doesn't) </div>

<div>Hi Grasshopper, and welcome.</div><div> </div><div>Like you I am expecting delivery at the end of September</div><div></div>I have been thinking of getting alloy cover and smart repair too. Any recommendations of who to use and typical cost etc?<div> </div><div>peter</div>

I've too recently placed an order and the dealer is offering GAP (~£659), Alloy/Tyre (£399) and Minor Damage Insurance (£399).<div><br></div><div>I remember having these with the TT I had a few years ago and they were about the same price. <span style="line-height: 1.4;">Definitely will be tempted to get all three.</span></div><div><span style="line-height: 1.4;"><br></span></div><div><span style="line-height: 1.4;">I've asked the dealer about the factory tour and would definitely would be interested, especially if I can get to see the car I've ordered getting built. :) </span></div>

The dealer I am using only offered GAP (return to invoice) for about £450<div> </div><div>I have looked elsewhere for others</div><div>Tyre insurance £90/year Adrian Flux (albeit I only have smaller standard wheels)</div><div>Key insurance £20/ year Adrian Flux</div><div>Gap Insurance (return to invoice) £265/ 3 years ALA.co.uk</div><div>Cosmetic repair £241 /3 years ALA.co.uk</div><div>Alloy insurance £186 /3 years ALA.co.uk</div><div> </div><div>The other thing the dealer said was that if you loose a key they can no longer programme extra keys using the remaining key and that the ECU (or something) would need replacing at a considerable cost like £1500.</div><div>I must admit I was rather sceptical of this so I called anther main dealer and they told me the same story. They also said that all the new 2016 jaguar range onwards are effected by this. So they recommended I get key insurance too. Thoughts on this?</div><div> </div><div>These all add up </div>

<div>Thanks all!</div><div><br></div>Looks like this on a few minds as well as my own. Dealer has quoted similar costs as described. I'm getting the 20" Black Cyclone wheels, so a kerbing would be annoying. Also I will have to leave it in a station car park from time to time and as much as I'l be careful where I leave it, a door bang is inevitable. Both £399. <div><br></div><div>Gap seems to make some sense, however they are also offering a paint protection from Guard X for £425 (from memory). Would be interested to know if this makes any difference?</div><div><br></div><div>@Mokster V keen to see mine being built as well! They were going to come back to me and let me know which factory builds the F-Type.</div><div><br></div><div>ps, 58 days to go, it's an agonising wait.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

Dont get dealer paint protection, they dont have the knack with it and covered mine in swirls. £400 will get you a great job off a proper detailer...i dont even let them wash mine anymore. My alloy ins was £199 for 3 years, paint £399 for 3 years and does include paint chips on the nose. I was actually impressed with the claims process, pretty smooth. Will check who it is with underneath when at my desk later. Jess

<div><br></div><div>Hi Grasshopper.</div><div><br></div><div>I would be quite wary of the GardX and if I were you have a quick google and do a bit of research.</div><div><br></div><div>I think the product itself is probably fine but there are equally good ones on the market that you can apply yourself or even better get a specialist detailer in to apply for about the same (or less) money than £425.</div><div><br></div><div>Most specialist detailers have your car from 12 to up to 48hrs, from everything I have researched GardX is applied in the dealers in about an hour. When you consider that the GardX can be picked up for about £25 on eBay someone is making quite a bit of money from you......</div><div><br></div><div>When my wife ordered and picked her car up last month I said no to GardX and the sales guys were not pushy at all.</div><div>When we got it home I washed it carefully and <span style="line-height: 1.4;">polished with Auto Glym Super Resin polish, sealed with Auto Glym Super Gloss Protection and then added a couple of layers of Auto Glym AquaWax (awesome product).</span></div><div>These are good middle of the road products and easy to apply for an amateur but there are some really amazing products out there that the detailers use.</div><div>The great bit about doing it yourself is a) the sense of satisfaction and b) you get to really appreciate the beautiful lines and small design details and touches of the F-Type.</div><div><br></div><div>Regards Mike</div><div><br></div>

<span style="line-height: 16.8px;">Patience, young grasshopper, the car will soon be yours (d'ya see what I did there?! </span><img src="http://www.ftypeownersclub.co.uk/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><span style="line-height: 16.8px;">).</span><div><span style="line-height: 16.8px;"><br></span></div><div><span style="line-height: 16.8px;">Gap insurance from ala.co.uk or gapinsurance.co.uk is definitely worth a punt (don't buy any insurance from the dealer, way cheaper online!).</span></div><div><span style="line-height: 16.8px;"><br></span></div><div><span style="line-height: 16.8px;">As others have said, don't bother with the paint protection, you can get better for similar price elsewhere from a specialist detailer.</span></div><div><span style="line-height: 16.8px;"><br></span></div><div><span style="line-height: 16.8px;">Factory tour is pretty good, try to wangle 2 free tickets out of the dealer (they're £49 a pop otherwise!) then it's definitely worth the trip.</span></div><div><span style="line-height: 16.8px;">The F is made at Castle Bromwich, the same site where they made Spitfires in WWII so you get a little bit of history too, but it's good to see the mixture of hand and robotic production that they use.</span></div>

You have ordered the best colour Grasshopper, perhaps I'm biased. Well done with the Caterham too, I also have another so called impractical car as well. A car is only impractical if you don't enjoy driving it.<br />Steve.🏎

I bought mine pre loved and it sounds like pretty similar spec. I got the dealer to throw in the alloy wheel cover and 6 months road tax to seal the deal. with 20" blade alloys I suspect that I will need the wheel insurance at some point.<br /><br />you will love the car by the way!

Grasshopper and Timlaw <div>In hindsight I should have taken alloy insurance. I kerbed one of my 20" carbon blades and damaged the diamond turned edge. It cost £150 but the repair is invisible. </div><div>One word of caution. I'm told because of the curvature of the wheel past the diamond turn you can only re-cut them a couple of times before the 'cut' part get's too wide and becomes noticeable. Next time it happens I'll have to change wheels from offside to nearside....<img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/699/Kerbed_alloy.jpg" height="525" width="700" border="0" /></div>
