Last night at 1.30am me and my whole street were rudely awakened by some idiot's car alarm blasting away for at least a FULL minute. That's a long time to listen to someone's car wailing in the early hours.
And yes, the idiot was me.
In my tired stupor, I eventually realised it was my car, stumbled downstairs to get the key out of its scan-proof pouch and couldn't switch the bloody thing off. Seriously,
I pressed the Unlock button several times but it refused to stop. I tried unlock and even lock furiously for 30 seconds and could hear the car responding but refusing to stop, until finally the alarm beeped once and stopped - only to restart 5 seconds later. I went through this cycle 3 times before the alarm stayed stopped.
My car is parked on my driveway adjacent to the street, so I keep it locked, alarmed and fully covered. There was no sign of tampering in the daylight. So maybe a cat or a fox jumped on and set off the alarm.
I don't understand why it was so difficult to switch off the alarm. And why it kept restarting after about 5 seconds of silence - 3 times before finally shutting up. Although I stayed indoors I was literally just 2 or 3 metres away from my car and could hear it "clicking" when I pressed the fob buttons.
I always lock with a double click on the fob which folds the wing mirrors and gives a single beep.
Any explanation or advice for next time appreciated.
