AJ126 3.0sc engine variants

Morning everyone,
I’ve just joined the forum and I’m brand new to f-type ownership, although I suspect I’ll not be driving it for a while.
As stated I’ve just acquired an early model F-type 3.0sc convertible with a poorly engine, which I’m assuming, following initial investigation, is going to require either a major rebuild, or replacement.
As such I’d like to understand the differences in the successive variants of this engine, as fitted to the F-type, so that I can asses their suitability as a replacement. I.e what are the differences between a variant fitted to a 2018 model and a 2013 variant is the block the same, are the heads the same, cams, supercharger, etc, etc,
If anyone out there has this knowledge, or can point me in the direction of such a source, I’d be grateful.
Thanks in anticipation and merry Christmas to all.

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you’ll soon know your engine pretty well then.

The differing ps output variants of 340/380/400 are all just engine management software based with no mechanical difference.
There are numerous part number upgrades, such as the coolant pipe under the s/c, injectors, etc.
Other than that I would check out the Jaguar parts catalogue and reduce things down from there based on the original VIN.

Welcome to the forum. AIUI, engine parts are not readily available from JLR so a rebuild may be a challenge. There are not many after-market suppliers either, since the F-Type isn't a big enough seller to justify development. VAP does a lot of Jaguar stuff, though, so may be of interest.

Anyway, there are lots of knowledgeable members on here so you'll probably get answers to your questions, so ask away!

The only engine compatability issue i'm aware of is the variable pressure oil pump which i think was intruduced in MY16. But i'm not sure about this 100% so you'll have to do more research.

Thanks for this,
Yes, I think it may be an interesting “challenge” as I know nothing about the aj126 engine at all, although I suspect it can’t be that different to the other jLR engines I’ve messed with.

Thank you. Excuse my ignorance, but what does Aiui to which you refer mean, is this the early engine designation ?

If an engine is changed for a salvage engine is there any coding or electronic changes that need to be done?

Evening Delta ,
Sorry for the delayed reply, I’ve only just seen your post.
As long as you’re using the original ecu, there’s no programming required. It should just start and run, but you’d probably want to clear the adaptations. The only other variation I’ve found out, not mentioned here already, is that the plugs on two of the camshaft sensors are different on the earlier models.
