Active exhaust and loud button question

Please forgive my ignorance, although I've read lots about the active exhaust and loud button I could just do with an owner comment and understanding of the system.<div><br></div><div>As I understand it, early (13 /14) V6S and V8S were both fitted with the active sports exhaust, but the loud button was an option.</div><div>I know that the loud button is easy to spot as long as you have a photo of the car interior</div><div><br></div><div>Can someone tell me if the dynamic mode on either of the above "S" variants instantly opens the exhaust valve anyway?</div><div><br></div><div>As I would be driving the car at least 90% of the time in dynamic mode, it makes me wonder if I do actually need the loud button. So far I've been ruling out any car without it As I would be planning to press the button every single time i drove it.</div><div><br></div><div>I'm sure this question has been asked before, but just really wanted to double-check.</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks.</div>

Loud button was standard on all V6s and above. Only optional on the standard V6 in the UK.<div><br></div><div>Dynamic mode automatically opens the active exhaust but again only on the V6s and above. The V6 (without S) does not have an active exhaust as standard as far as i know.</div><div><div><br></div><div><br></div></div>

<div><br></div><div>Thanks for the reply, however the loud band definitely wasn't standard on early V6S and I seen a few V8S without it either. I'm talking about 2013 and 2014 cars rather than the current specification car.</div>

I have a V6S with the button, and I can vouch that I don't need to press the button AND do the switch to get loud mode, just the dynamic switch definitely activates loud mode. What I can't tell you is if a car without the separate switch behaves the same way....<div> </div><div>Another thought is I do use just the button more often than you might think, dynamic mode is great but it also stiffens the suspension and on some of the roads around me that is NOT a good thing!</div><div> </div><div>Jess</div>

<div><br></div><div>That's interesting, it's sort of confirms what I thought in that the dynamic switch does then open the active exhaust.</div><div>I haven't thought about dynamic making the car firmer on the more bumpy roads. When I drove it yesterday, I felt it was very slow to respond and it wasn't in dynamic mode, but that was probably because I'd spent hour before in dynamic mood and switched back into standard - hence finding it slower to respond in comparison.</div><div><br></div><div>I think I still need the sport exhaust button by the sound of things.</div>

Yep the dynamic switch on mine def opens the exhaust, and yes if you go dynamic and then go back to standard it does feel like you are running through glue for a bit :) I thought I'd broken it the first time I switched back!<div></div><div>I didn't see many without the switch when I was looking (2013/14 V6S and v8) - even when the spec (and in one case dealer *sigh*) said no, the pictures/reality had the button.</div><div> </div><div>I do wish I'd found one with full electric seats, but those are rare, and only matters to me as I actually let someone else drive mine, which is apparently rare ;P</div><div> </div><div>Jess</div><div> </div>

Dynamic mode does open up the exhaust, but dynamic mode also sharpens things up and leaves gears to run longer and down change quicker etc. If you want normal driving with the noise then you need the button. Leaving it in dynamic all the time (such as on a motorway) you'll find it will try to down change a lot more.<br />Just a find one with the button.

I test drove a 2013 V6 without the exhaust button (but I think had dynamic mode), and it definitely did was not as loud as the V6S with the exhaust button. It definitely was enough for me to rule out any car without the button from my search.<div><br></div><div>As for dynamic mode with the button. In my case, when I switch to dynamic mode, the LED on the exhaust button lights up.</div><div>Also when in dynamic mode, under on of the menus, (Dynamic-i?), I can adjust the engine, gearing, and suspension. In my case, I changed the suspension to be normal, even in dynamic mode. I don't know if the configurable dynamic mode is an option, but hope it may be useful information to somebody...</div><div><br><div><br></div></div>

Dynamic-i was an option on 2013 2014 cars at least. Standard on the R i think.<div><br></div><div>I have it - useful but not worth £2k or whatever it cost new.</div>

Elementad your not exactlly right, when in dynamic mode you can leave the box in drive and it behaves like normal, only when in sport does it hold onto gears longer and down change quicker.<br>

So the current V6 base <b>does </b>have active exhaust as standard. Without the switch active exhaust is turned on by going into dynamic and in this case does not tighten up the suspension as it doesn't have active suspension. Yes it does tighten the steering a little and the gearing is slightly lower but I couldn't then see the point of having the button. <div><br></div><div>I suppose eveyone else knows this but I have just worked out that to get that wonderful snorting sound when changing gear you need to use the paddles</div>

If your on the motorway at 70 then you flick it into dynamic mode you'll find the sensitive throttle response is more eager to down change and hold onto the gear whereas normal mode will simply leave it in the most economical gear. Flicking the lever into sport and dynamic enables you to rev to the red line

Sorry to sound a bit naive, but what is "sport mode" I assume that you put the car in dynamic mode and that gives you its maximum settings? Is there something I'm missing?<div><br></div><div> I've been driving the car for the last couple of hours, I'm now back at home as my wife has taking it out for a spin to pick my son up from school.</div><div>So far, I've come to the conclusion I'm not overly keen on the standard automatic mode, it feels very much like any other automatic gearbox, but really enjoyed when I flick it over into manual with dynamic mode turned on, it felt like it then came alive a lot more.</div>

The other mode is pushing the gear lever to the left when in dynamic mode. Turns the auto into a 'race mode' if you will. Also you'll find switching to flappy paddles much better suited in this mode. If you use flappy paddles in this sports mode it won't auto change back into automatic after a few seconds of non paddle use like it does when not in sport mode. You can flip between paddle and auto in sports mode by pulling on the paddle for about 3 seconds.<br />In short, if you want to use paddles, stick the gear selector to the left for sports mode + Switch dynamic mode on = fun<br />

You got me thinking about the S mode and Dynamic...<div>sliding the gear stick to S puts it in Sports and also actives fixed manual gear shift once paddles are pressed this we know.</div><div>Question 1:</div><div>What settings does S mode activate with Dynamic mode settings? Steering, suspension, gears, engine?</div><div>Question 2:</div><div>Does the S mode activate my dynamic preset configuration or factory settings?</div><div><br></div><div>I looked at this in the manual and does not give much information about this apart from the fixed gear shift feature in S mode.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>On another note, I definitely recommend manual shift in Dynamic, you have more control and more fun!</div><div><br></div>

<div><br></div><div>I have a 2013 V6S and the active exhaust button was a standard as with the V8, it was an option only with the V6. Anyways, you can deactivate the active exhaust in Dynamic mode, but when you are revving around 3500rpm and above the big cat just wants to growl! Its not as loud with the active on but audible though. </div><div>Im thinking of super glueing the loud button for on position, bloody annoying having to switch it on all the time at start up.</div>

Good morning all,<div><br></div><div>Please do not hesitate to send a PM as always containing vehicle information and contact information should anyone require any further assistance, I would be more than happy to help.</div><div><br></div><div>Many thanks,</div><div><br></div><div>Lucy </div>
