A car check please

Hi @SimpleR

First post here, long time lurker :) I'm still searching around for a nice SVR and have come across a nice example on registration OO13 WEB.

It's a low mileage example at less than 10,000 miles, but would it be possible to provide a little more info on the car please SimpleR?

Thanks!
DJH

Hi and welcome.

Super quick as it's Friday pub o'clock nearly.

MY18 Car 47932.

This car was made early 2017 and looks like it was a showroom car at Jaguar Droitwich until it was registered with first owner a year later on 27th March 2018 on the OO13WEB plate. That is why this is a 2018 car but only an MY18 spec. It has had all three H239 noise campaigns applied to it.

The assigned plate to this car is VK18BEJ however the plate history makes no sense so would recommend a full car vertical check to figure it out.

1st owner only kept it until 24th August 2018.
The second owner sold it 16th January 2022.
The third owner transferred it to dealer on 28th February 2024.

It will show two previous owners on current V5C as it is on transfer until sold so you would be 4th owner if you pick it up.

Service history below. Nothing itemised for rear diff or spark plugs so check these were done.

Hi there SimpleR, and sorry for my delayed response. Been away all weekend and only just managed to get back in front of a PC once more!

Massive thanks for the info you provided, really appreciate all the useful information. Thank you :)

It's a real shame to hear about the three H239 noise campaigns which have applied. Have you verified this based on VIN number or just the three "eVHC" mentions in the service history? Am I correct in thinking that these noise campaigns are :

1. H239v1 - startup dynamic mode not preserved between ignition cycles
2. H239v2 - flaps closed in low RPM
3. H239v3 - not sure about this one!?

I know you can't mitigate these software-wise, but would I be correct in saying that if I was to pull Fuse 15 then flaps would always be open during ignition (#1), and flaps would also be opened at low revs (#2)? One of the big draws of the car is the noise, startup sound etc and I think this could be a deal-breaker if I'm missing out on the gorgeous noise during start and at low revs.

Thanks again, DJH

H239 V1 in 2018 so cars forget dynamic mode at each ignition cycle.

H239 V2 in 2020 to keep exhaust valves closed below around 1500rpm regardless of mode.

H239 V3 in 2022 which I don't think we have much information on or facts but based on other posts possibly valves stay shut until over 3k rpm.

There is a Jaguar system called TopiX, if you pop the VIN on there it says no Outstanding Campaigns which suggests it has been done. vHC is just a vehicle health check which gets recorded on service history.

Lots of posts on here about fuse 15. My advice is to test drive a few, they are all noisy, some are just noisy than others.

There are sooo many threads on the exhaust valves and it seems to be a common theme that no one seems to actually be 100% sure ever.

I've got a MY16 car that came from a Jag dealer as approved used and has no outstanding campaigns against it according to TopiX. I would therefore assume it has had all of those updates applied, yet it is plenty loud enough with more pops and bangs than you'll ever need.
It definitely also opens the exhaust flaps up above 1000 rpm in dynamic mode with the exhaust button "on" which completely goes against H239 V3 (if the 3k rpm thing is accurate).

I think as simpleR said. You might just have to test drive some and see if you are happy with the noise levels.

The max limit for drive by noise was reduced in 2016 to 72db for cars made after 2017 so yours would be excluded from any H239 campaign.

However, as mentioned, regardless of this and when buying any car, drive as many as you can before making a decision.

Ahhh okay. That makes sense I guess.

Hey folks

Just a quick message to say thanks for the assistance (SimpleR) in providing the help and info about the F-Type I was looking at - after much deliberating and looking at a few others, I did eventually go for the above SVR after running two separate car-checks using Car Vertical and Motorcheck. All looked good and confirmed there was actually no issue with the number-plate history! :) Loving the car so far! Will post some pics later!

Thanks again, Dave

I haven't checked in for a while, but a quick owner update after 16 months ownership and around 4.5k miles. The car's awesome, I love her, the obnoxiously loud pre-GPF V8 hasn't lost its novelty one bit :D Not sure the neighbours would agree however! Thanks again to everyone who helped me make the decision, if you're on the fence about buying one, do it :ugeek:

Thanks for the feedback. That noise never loses its novelty - mine still gives me tingles after 7 years!
