2nd F type incoming - asking for advice

Hi Everyone,

I used to own a 2015 R AWD black convertible. Bloody loved it and I'm back for more.

I have my eye on a coupe (need the luggage space!) AWD but before I buy it I want to have peace of mind on an extended warranty as my last one hit me with a £3k bill as the rear diff went.

The Jaguar extended warranty says they don't have a product for the car. Didn't want to go too far into the writing as to what qualifies. is there an obvious requirement you guys can advise on. its a 2015 45k milage

The ALA warranty says when you have your vehicle serviced, you are allowed 500 miles either side of the service mileage or four weeks either side of the time period

The history of the car i am looking at has full jag service but some dates look like it rules me out of the ALA warranty? can anybody advise if I will never get an extended warranty now? Or which warranty everyone on here usually gets?

service dates:
29/04/2015
11/05/2016
04/05/2017
26/04/2018
22/04/2019
12/06/2020 - 7 weeks late
29/03/2021
??/??/2022 -not happened yet as the dealer has had the car in this period.

I was never on an f type forum before, so don't actually know what to look out for specifically as a buyer. I'm going to have a read through but any particular advice would be very much appreciated

Best regards,
Matt

Hello Matt,

Maybe combined age, mileage & history, of that particular car, rules it out. I’ve definitely seen a 40k+ mileage car, under Jaguar Used Approved, so don’t think mileage, on its own, excludes.

I’d be careful of an older, higher mileage, multi-owner examples from a indie used car dealer. Plenty of cars from JUA, or even direct from an enthusiast private owner, if you want a bit more value.

There are a couple of shockers out there, for sale, presently. Most are good but do lots of homework prior to parting with cash.

Good Luck 👍

Darren

Seems a bit inflexible to insist on the standard 4 weeks, during the lockdown. I think I read that Jaguar themselves were more flexible which is understandable

I've read of people buying the Jaguar extended warranty separately, which I think required the car to be inspected by a dealer, it mght be worth asking a dealer or the warranty people what the process might be

Warranty cost would be something like £1000 per annum, as a guess.

Thank you both for replying. The car has had 1 previous owner and as the service history is full from Jaguar other than this year in waiting I thought that with a health check and service by the local jag dealership prior to collection would be good enough as a check the car was ok.

It's a shame about the warranty situation, I had a 35is between my last f type and this one, had learnt my lesson on the extended warranty from the f type rear diff! so took BMW's warranty, it was painless and easy to setup on a 5 year old car.

I will take your advice and ask the dealership regarding the warranty. If anyone knows of a white f type awd coupe, I'm in the market for one.

Reg is SW15YRK and VIN is SAJAL63P3GMK25038

They will do it for £40,500 which I thought was ok?

I know of one - it's on my drive, but I'm never going to let it go! Good luck with the search, there'll be one out there somewhere with your name on it.

Give Jaguar warranty a call on 0344 573 8065.

This car was originally on a cherished plate of JT8 and was in Jaguar stock on 23rd February 2021. The owner upgraded to an SVR so I'm unsure why this car fell out of the Jaguar main dealer network.

As the car was sold in 2021 (I cannot find out when) it might still be covered by an extended warranty still hence it won't let you take one out! All used Jaguars come with 1yr warranty included (and 2yrs if you ask nicely) when purchased from a Jaguar retailer.

A couple of people have managed to get a Jag main dealer to do the 165 point check, which if passed allowed them to get the official Jaguar warranty.

A historic out of schedule service doesn’t prevent you getting the warranty - my 48 month service was 8 months late (prior to my purchase). It was sold as an Approved Used, went through the 165 point check, with a years warranty. I successfully claimed on the arranty, have since renewed, and claimed again.
