2013 V6 Convertible

Hi guys,

Ever since my son bought a gorgeous V6 380bhp convertible last week I’ve fallen instantly in love with them.
Currently contemplating a 2013 V6 380 in lunar grey so what should I be wary of (if anything).
It’s advertised with full service history and has only done 34000.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Welcome. Same age and V6S as mine.
Buy on condition of course.
For the service I’d dig deep and see what FSH really is. It should have 11 annual services after pdi by now and I’d want to see they all took place. annually. Some big items needed especially around years 9 & 10. I’d need evidence of aside oil and filter, especially plugs twice, gearbox oil changed, rear diff oil changed, aux belts done.
Check mot history and see what it says.
Post reg. and folks here can give more info.

Main thing to be wary of is keeping your licence!

Yes, keeping my licence could potentially be a problem as that roar is so infectious! My son bought his from a dealer in Bedford and we had a 75 mile journey home which he didn’t want to do so I volunteered to be the guinea pig so to speak! A very costly decision as it turned out because as I said in my first post I fell in love as soon as I heard it fire up!!

To be honest I’ve seen a couple I like: a 14 plate in stratus grey (LF14 JVR) and the one I mentioned above in lunar grey (RF13 AZG).
I suspect they probably had personal plates at some time so I don’t whether any information could be forthcoming.
As I am probably older than the average bear my budget is closer to the 13 plate but I would have preferred a 14 plate.
That said, the mileage is lower on the 13 plate and the price is £1500 less plus it has more toys (never too old for toys guys)😎

RF13AZG returns code 10, no trace, on PNC.
Are you sure that is the correct reg?

Can't blame you for falling for it. These cars are amazing. :)

Since you're looking at an early car, make sure you're fine with the sticky interior plastic issue. And read up on the usual things to check like exhaust valves.

A number of the AJ126 V6 engines produced before mid 2014 had a manufacturing issue with the conrod bearings leading to complete engine failure, starting with a knocking if caught early. Don't want to be scaremongering and most of the faulty engines have probably already died by now but it's something to be aware of if buying a very early car. I had such an AJ126 fail at about 33 000 miles and fortunately got a new engine under warranty.

Ditto with the engine issue and £15k of replacement under warranty.
The injectors don’t like low grade fuel either - Tesco Momentum 99 is a good value option.
Check the boot is dry and the rear drain tubes not clogged up, as this could affect the roof operation.
Sticky buttons isn’t a problem - they just require a lot of patience and rubbing clean with makeup remover.

Oops my mistake….it should be RJ13AZG

Hopefully that checks out ok…..

Car 4643.

First owner had it until 21st August 2018 in Leeds.

Second owner picked it up on 14th September in York and had it on plate K3XBY. This is now on a DB11.
Until 25th January 2022

Third owner picked it up on 6th April 2022 and had it on plate RS06JAG. This is now on an iPace.
Until 13th June 2024

Next owner will be the 4th.

The service history is missing 3rd service, nothing recorded since 2021 and none of it itemised. Check for paperwork!

Great, thanks very much. That rules that one out then.
Could you check the other choice I had for me please?
It’s a 14 plate (registered July) and the reg number is LF14 JVR.
This one is right at the top of my budget but I’m in love…….
Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Same colour and model as mine, just a few months newer, so I'm biased towards it
I'm sure you've seen the video of it and it looks clean and tidy, albeit greasy spray detailing to the max.. Says sold but might be you on deposit?
Looks clean and tidy, but price feels a bit top end at £27k
Has only the basic seats, minimal function and no seat memory, so something to consider. I'd certainly look to the performance seats, which are way better
Most recent owner has racked up a lot of miles relative to the history (50% of total since 2021)
Service history will be key to this one, just as per my comments on the previous

No, it’s not me. I was leaning towards that one but someone else bagged it however thanks for checking.

That’s a good tip about the performance seats….I’ll be wanting those now but I wasn’t bothered about the memory seats as once they are set they won’t be moved!

Not to worry…..I’ll go back on AT and look for another one!

I think my budget will only stretch to a 14/15 plate as I don’t want high mileage and I do like my toys👍👍👍

Might have found another possibility but it’s the other side of London! Tempted to book an appointment to see it but it’d be a 3 hour journey for me from sunny Leicestershire.

It’s a 15 plate in salsa red with performance seats and most of the toys that I like. Looks very smart and has low mileage but (for me) very expensive at nearly £29k.

All the nice ones seem to be down south so to speak…..

What's the reg? And what is most important to you?
We might save you a journey!

The reg number is LC15 PNV and it’s at Century cars in Crawley.

Once again, I really appreciate your help so thanks very much.

Let’s hope this one is ok…….👍

I had a good look at all the F-Type Coupes at Century Cars last week but didn't view the soft tops. All I can say is that I'd be surprised if it wasn't a good car. Simon gets his stock directly from his network of contacts in main dealers and only accepts the best ones. Service History will be as you'd hope for and any bodywork chips and wheel blemishes that need sorting will become part of the contract for doing before collection.

I'm collecting my 16 plate IRR 340 coupe on Tuesday and if I have time I'll have a quick look around the salsa car.

That’s great and very kind of you; fingers crossed it’s as nice as it looks in the photos.👍👍

It appears to have all the spec that I would like with the exception of upgraded stereo but my lad’s Jag has the standard one and it seems fine.

Hopefully everything else is ok about it too….

Do get a full check, such as car vertical. There is an export marker showing but might be incorrect.

3 owners, copy of service info below.
