Winter Tyres

Hi all,<div><br></div><div>Given the winter is upon us, I just want to see what others' thoughts are on winter tyres. Are they needed in the UK for the F Type?</div><div><br></div><div>I've had winter tyres for my previous car and haven't really tested them due to the "lack of snow" in the past few years, but the forecast suggests we might get a white Christmas this year.</div><div><br></div><div>I've been quoted over £3000 for a set of <span style="color: rgb31, 73, 125; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14.6667px;">Pirelli Winter SOT Z3 with 19" alloys! <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley3.gif" border="0" alt="Shocked" title="Shocked" /> I think the 18" Vela alloys would be cheaper.</span></div><div><span style="color: rgb31, 73, 125; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14.6667px;"><br></span></div><div><span style="color: rgb31, 73, 125; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14.6667px;">Thanks.</span></div>

Winter tyres are amazing in colder conditions i have to say.<div><br></div><div>All depends on if you use the car much in the winter. I'd say they are a good investment if you commute in it. If, like me, you don't use the F in the winter much, i'd not bother.</div><div><br></div><div>Summer tyres are ok on a dry sunny day, just need more warming up.</div>

I had winters on my 911 and was planning on having them on the F-type; but can't stretch that far so have an old Fiesta instead for the icy days!<br />I was very impressed with Nokian winter tyres - particularly in the wet and they'd be my choice again if I was able - with the F-type's power the difference would probably be more pronounced

I am considering winter tyres for my V6S. Having only just bought the thing I don't want to have to leave it in the garage over the winter. <br /><br />I will buy a new set of wheels for the car and leave the winters in storage through the summer. <br /><br />Does anyone have a recommendation for the wheel size to use? Should I stick to the same width as my summers or narrow them down a bit to make it handle better in the snow.?<br /><br />There is obviously a trade off in terms of traction, wide tyres have more traction in the dry. Narrow tyres have more traction in the snow.
