Wheels to fit over carbon brakes.

Hey guys,

I have the carbon brakes on my 2014 awd with the standard wheels, I'm not keen on the alloys so I'm looking for a set of aftermarket alloy wheels. Does anybody know the wheel specks i will need to look for?

Ill also be selling the set of wheels when i swap them out if anybody is interested.

Thanks. :)

I don't know the specs but do know that only a couple of OEM 20" wheels actually fit over the carbon ceramic brakes, so clearance may be an issue with aftermarket wheels.

The carbon-ceramic brake disc sizes on your car are:
Front: 398mm / Rear: 380mm

Not sure about aftermarket but one of the 20 inch OEM wheels that’s suitable is the ‘Storm’ (Front: 9J x 20 / Rear: 10.5J x 20).
Shown as item number 4 here... https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/part/id/152.1068.2394.11207/brand/jaguar/
Are they the wheels that are currently on your car?

With the 'Storm' wheels, be careful when parking close to a kerb etc. Reason being that they are designed to accommodate the carbon-ceramic brake assembly and the wheel spokes are slightly more vulnerable to kerb damage i.e the spokes protrude further outwards. See examples here... https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=61113#p61113

Also have a read through this https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=3687 as it includes a screenshot showing some OEM wheels which are suitable for cars with the carbon-ceramic braking system including the 19 inch 7 Split-Spoke 'Style 7013' alloy wheel. I didn't think 19 inch would have fitted but it must be more to do with the spoke design as mentioned earlier.

Great thank you, yes i have the storm wheels. They just don't do it for me so looking for other options.

Ill have a read through the posts you highlighted, Thanks :)

Spoke clearance against the calipers is the difficulty. The only other OEM wheels that fit with CC brakes are the Maelstrom.

These barely have a couple of millimetres clearance between the spokes and front CC brake calipers. As a comparison with ordinary fitments, I've just measured the spoke to caliper gap on my Maelstroms with non-CC calipers , which is huge at 25mm.

I've been looking into this as well. My Maelstroms have milky patches in the laquer and can't be refurbished with a diamond cut face unfortunately, having been refinished once or twice before my ownership.
As Mick says the clearance of the brake caliper is the main issue coupled with the fact that the ceramic disc face is not flat. The hub of the wheel needs to be chamfered to give a mounting face of roughly 136mm instead of the usual flat face 150 to 170 mm.
Clearance of the brakes could be possible with spacers but the chamfer in the disc is an issue here too.
Interestingly F type owners that have fitted the PB Big brake calipers have been able to use their standard wheels.

Even if there's a wheel that will fit, I've only seen a couple of designs that I like.
So my conclusion is to have one made, that way I'll get a design I like and the right offset to fill the wheel arches without spacers.
We'll see how that goes in a month or two.
