Warranty options

I'm considering viewing a MY19 car this weekend (will post separately for a check of the car) but wanted a heads up on warranty.

Previously I've bought cheaper cars and the warranty they normally offer doesn't actually cover much so I rely more on my luck than the warranty (eg RAC type warranty).

I've seen lots on here that the jag extended warranty is good and looking specifically at threads on the types available meant I thought a used approved car from jag dealer came with 2 year extended warranty.

But looking now some dealers say they come with "12 month warranty... comprehensive mechanical and electrical component warranty...". This doesn't sound like the extended warranty to me.

I will call the garage to confirm what they offer but do people know if you can still get the jag extended warranty on their used cars / what I should ask?

I'd advise going for the Jag warranty as it's certainly more comprehensive than others available on the market, who will also harass you to the end of the world to buy their product. I understand the extended warranty is available to buy after the three year warranty, when purchasing a new vehicle, has expired but I stand to be corrected by those more knowledgable in the field of warranties

Yes, you can purchase a Jaguar extended warranty directly after the manufacturer warranty expires. I think the time window to take it up is app three months? If a car is outside the allowed period it would require a JLR dealer inspection, which is chargeable. If you call their customer service line giving the Reg no they can advise directly, call customer services on 0344 573 8065. When I was looking at a dealer supplied used Jag last year they were only offering a one year warranty on a three year old car?

Jaguar extended warranty comes in two favours. Select and Extended. And then with or without full breakdown.

Select offers repairs upto a certain value and limited components. Extended covers major components and failures included consequential failure where if a covered part fails and takes out a part not normally covered then everything is covered. Extended policy comes with unlimited claims or values up to the value of the car.

If you purchase a jaguar from used approved stock that is more than 2 years old it will come with 1yr extended warranty. At the end of the year you can renew with select or extended with or without breakdown.

This used to be 2 years extended warranty up to about 2019/20 when they changed it. However, used approved stock they don't usually move on price because the price is set by Jaguar but you used to be able to ask for a free service and a free second year extended warranty.

Even if you are not buying from used approved stock you can check https://jaguar.motor-admin.com/warranty/vehicle-details-1 to see if it offers any warranty options because a previous owner might of had it and not known. If it doesn't offer any options or the car was not used approved, then that was the end of the story. But one user on here paid for a Jaguar 165 point check to enable them to buy the extended warranty even though it was not used approved. However I have never seen that before or since, but it might still be available if you can find a willing dealer.

Thanks, both a clear explanation of options and why my research said used approved came with 2 years but is now be 1 year.

Currently nothing available via that link but if it is truly used approved I may get it via the garage so I'll call tomorrow.

Thanks both

Used approved stock is listed on Jaguar website.
