Hi all,

First post.. one of many I hope!

So I am settled on wanting a 5.0 awd.. now im going over options.. I have about £40k gbp to spend.. ive seen a model 2015 with 75k miles for 32k.. and much lower miles around the 40k mark...

Would the extra money for lower miles be worth if?

Whats your views?

Cheers

Go on condition and how you perceive it's been looked after rather than mileage - these cars can go long if the owner(s) keeps on top of the maintenance. I've had Jaguars at 66,000 mles (2001 XK8), 90,000 miles (2004 XKR), and 13,000 miles (2010 XKR) before my 1300 miles (count 'em!) 1 year old 2018 F-Type. They were all reliable and didn't become those legendary money pits. I have an excellent independent who knows his stuff and doesn't rip me off - that's what I'd recommend as a first priority!

And welcome to the forum and, eventually, our lovely club! :)

I bought an XF-R with 152,500 miles on it in 2018 and sold it earlier this year with 164,281. No major issues, just the normal servicing items I did over course of ownership, discs/pads, tyres etc., interior was hardly worn so high mileage cars aren't necessarily a money pit that people seem to think. The general perception is that once something hits 100,000 miles then it'll explode or all the doors and wheels will fall off in true comedy fashion; it doesn't. The V8 won't be as stressed as a 1.4/1.6/1.8/2.0 lump being thrashed to get the thing moving, just use the torque of the V8. Look at the condition of the interior, service history, past MoT's, scored brake discs, tyre wear, panel colours (silver is a bugger to match) etc. and trust your gut

Don't forget car forums are the place for everyone to moan about things, especially being British is something we excel at, so problems will be more prominent. Goodness knows how we all used to buy our cars with only a black and white photo in AutoTrader to go by...halcyon days

I think you should consider a RWD V8R. You can buy 2014 V8R with 31K miles for £34K with pano roof (a must for any coupe) and full Jaguar service history. (That’s my car. Contact me if you are interested).
