Steering compromised

Evening all, I returned to the car after a shop to be confronted with an amber warning message in dash
( see attached photo) . I managed to get home with extreme caution and lots of upper body strength…
Has anyone had this fault or have any pointers as to what to doIMG_0162.jpeg

do you have a code reader??
would be good to see the faults codes if possible

I unfortunately don’t have a diagnostic device Kaspa, but I’m getting it looked at by a Indy specialist on Tuesday with one
It’s all EPAS, so wait to see what the read out gives us.

Hello

Not much we can do really unless other owners have had the same issues
hopefully the indy can help you

I have a really good independent specialist, but the location may be too much of a distance .. couple of choices

good luck but please keep us updated

I have owned 3 BMW Z4m roadsters and numerous corvettes and a Z3M roadster S54 engine which I wish I had kept
all with good old fashioned hydraulic steering .. so much for progress

When mine started playing up there were no error messages. The resistance back through the steering wheel wasn't consistent and after changing battery (low/old battery can apparently cause problems) had to have the whole steering rack replaced.
MY18 so electric power steering.

Thanks for all your pointers, there’s a lot to thank for hydraulic steering 😊.I will keep you updated once I have the diagnostic report ( Tues).

Update: my car was run through the diagnostic scan and confirmed these faults
B1304-04 Electronic power steering
B1304-16 Electronic power assisted steering.
They carried out a battery test, measured at 630amps for a 800amp battery.
They fully charged the battery, all codes cleared and steering had returned.
Been advised, if fault returns, firstly replace battery to eliminate that from diagnostic process, there’s a chance it may still need a new steering rack if fault continues. So far day 3 and all is running fine.

Battery again!, i had a new one 2 years ago car has been left in garage since October 24 with no charger attached, got her out yesterday ready to tax on tuesday, simply fired up fist time.
Again and again i see issues about the f type and so very often just needs a new battery :))

Why does the battery cause these multitude of problems on these F Types. Is this just the F Type/Jaguar, or all cars of this era.

I have the 2016. Is this an electronic or hydraulic steering - any idea ?

Issue affects all modern cars which are so reliant on electronics (ecu’s modules, etc.) sensors and other complex components, which rely on a constant and consistent voltage to perform correctly. Low or fluctuations can induce all sorts of issues, simple or complex, from a bizarre set of warning lights to a wrong sensor reading, causing wrong engine or other adjustments. Low voltage can also cause overheating in electronics so can destroy them, hence so many forum references to checking batteries, voltage etc., as the first diagnostic check.

I cannot understand why manufacturers will built cars that are this sensetive to a battery voltage.
This is when these knowledge forums come into the fore !

Because they can't defy the laws of physics!
