Slow speed squeak

I have a high pitched squeak when travelling at slow speeds (10 - 30mph approx). It’s tricky to know exactly where it’s coming from, but seems more from the front than the rear. It only occurs when the engine has warmed up and I’ve been on the road for over, say, 50 miles. I never notice it on short trips. As soon as I touch the brakes the noise stops. I’ve tried braking hard to ‘clean’ the discs and have driven in wet weather with no change. It’s not a massive issue but it is a niggle. Anyone any ideas?

As the noise stops when the brakes are engaged, it could be either the pads are sticking a tiny bit on caliper pins, or they are just resonating against the disc slightly. Usually a bit of copper grease applied to the back of the pads (which stops them resonating), cures it and the calipers/pins can have any clogged up brake dust cleaned off at the same time.

Are they original pads and discs?

May be a stone, but normally sounds like a grind as opposed to a squeak....

Thank you. It’s definitely not a stone (had that on a previous car). The copper grease idea sounds good. I’ll give it a go (or, more accurately, ask the garage to when it’s serviced) The car has only done 5K and everything is factory fit.

Probably not your issue but I recently had a screeching from the front right when I applied left lock. Turned out that one of the Torx bolts that holds the brake shield had started to unscrew itself and was rubbing on the back of the disc, worse when left lock was applied due to flexing in the system. My local independent diagnosed the problem, applied thread lock on all three bolts, did a bit of grinding on the affected part of the disc and all is well again.

I’m also having same squeaking noise, it appears after 15min drive , on front brakes.
Dealer removed the pads, checking them and adding copper grease, but came back 2 days after…
Didn’t have the chance to go back to them as it was wet… so no squeaks.
Any advice how to solve it ?
Disc and pads where changed 10.000kms ago and was not driving the car before so don’t know if it was already there ?
Thanks !

I have tried to clean front calipers, it did improve having squeaks disappeared for several days but finally came back 😡
Squeaking only at low speed before a stop sign or traffic light.
Just wondering if all Ftype are concerned by this squeaks…

Still struggling with brake squeaks, only coming from right hand front. Pads were removed, cleaned, grease applied and same result. Squeaks at low speed before stop sign.
Don’t know finally what should be done, pads and disc are JLR ones.

As mentioned above by scm have you checked the brake shields?

In my instance it was the air deflector that had a loose bolt and was rubbing on the rotating assembly - the dealer swapped out a new one at no charge.

...those were the days before insisting on plugging in diagnostics to see what it said!!

Other than that could it be a dirty / dry wheel bearing?

Update :
Right hand pads were again removed, everything cleaned carefully, chamfer added on pads, grease at the back and… still squeakings once pads are warm braking at low speed. No squeaks when starting driving with cold pads.
Conclusion from jag service : changing disc and pads…
Knowing they have 10.000kms, this conclusion is a bit surprising ?
What do you think ?

Before final decision to change pads with new ones, one mechanic offered to swap left hand pads with right hand pads. Saying it may remove this squealing noise.
What do you think? Was not aware we can do this ?
Thank you
