S400 or V8 R - that is the question?

Hi - I’m new to the forum and on the cusp of my firsts F-Type! So the million dollar question for me is I’ve narrowed down to a 400 Sport V6 or a V8 - R (white which is not my top choice 2016) or a nice Italian Red V8 S (2013) all relatively low mileage models and in the same ball park of cost.. the 2013 is about £5k lower.

Pro and cons to all - the 400 looks smart but is the highest cost, V8 -R is well - a V8 but not sure on the AWD and the V8-S is best looking but oldest…

Given the choice what would the smart money be on?

Like to use for pure pleasure and may sell in 5 - 10 years?

All thoughts welcome 🙏

Welcome to the forum. Plenty of discussions on the forum and Stalkbook page regarding the 400 Sport versus V8, V6S etc. Depends what your heart is saying but the 400 is a very limited edition with lots of toys, and attracts attention for the right reasons, not that I'm biased in any way, shape or form...

Hello, I have found myself in a similar position this month. I chose to prioritise spec that was important to me - RWD, nice colour, noise - and I landed on a V8 S which I collect at the end of the week. As I understand it the power difference is trivial to remediate as it’s just software so I chose to look at that for an opportunity for a mini upgrade if I’m too used to the power in 12 months or so, and the rest is effectively the same.

If you are looking to hold on to and retain value then you should buy on mileage, service status, and probably interesting spec. Though realistically considering 5-10 year future values is basically anyone’s guess given the current world we live in and he volatile markets.

One thing to be wary of with the 400 Sport is the likelohood of facing the DRL issue as covered extensively in this thread:

Thanks for the feedback folks, and well I landed on a MY16 V8 R - amazing car low mileage and I’ll be 4th owner. I’m delighted and is the best I found having looked at several others.

In the end the ceramics on the 400 Sport put me off and as my first V8 it kind of had to be done 👍 - but hey if I win the lottery tonight I’ll go and get that 400S too ;-)

V8r all day long! It's like buying g a Porche, you get the boxter over a 911 cos that's all you can afford. If you can run a V8 as a toy then get it. 😁
