Reversing camera upgrade

My MY2016 V8 Coupé has the reversing camera but it's pretty terrible - obviously it needs to be clean but even when polished the fidelity on the camera is terrible! By contrast our Merc A-Class reversing cam is v v good, whereas the Jag one looks like it's got a film of opaque plastic over it.

Do the later cars have a better camera that could be retrofitted? Or is everyone else's ok and I should just replace mine?

My MY18 rear camera is very good - my neighbour complimented me on it. No idea if it's a plugin replacement for earlier MYs, though.

The rear camera on mine works A-OK....it’s a very handy feature to have.

The rear camera settings can be adjusted.

Worth trying.....

The rear camera on mine is very clear and no complaints.
My Evoque MY18 was rather poor after a few years use, sometimes even not working when cold. I bit the bullet and changed the camera last month and the result is very much improved. In fact now on a par with a near new Velar I also drive.
Interestingly the Evoque camera is the exact same part number as the Evoque so a change of camera could help.
They are susceptible to water ingress and failure
Careful research can find an item new one for around £130 and an easy fit.

Typo that I realised too late to correct that the camera I swapped in the Evoque is the exact same as the F Type. Given it fixed the issue, then a camera swap is in my option the way forward, unless you can tolerate the fuzziness caused by internal moisture.

Only word of caution is there are 2 basic cameras with different pin groupings. You need to be sure by MY which fits

@elugelab

If a new rear camera is required, the Jaguar part diagram, part number (VIN specific) and price is shown here.... https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/part/id/C72.C7266.C7266653.C72666539036/brand/jaguar/

They're rather expensive so you could use the correct part number shown in the link to try and source one elsewhere if you so wish?

Thanks everyone - much appreciated. I’ll play with the settings to see if it helps. I’m not so keen on paying £200+ for a new camera, I’ll just live with it being a bit rubbish and use the mirrors!

The camera in my 2014 is pretty poor in comparison to the one in my 2019 BMW, I’m assuming that’s just 5 years of progress!

BUMP....Old thread i know but did you OP ever get your camera sorted? I bought my first ever Jaguar at the weekend....proud owner of a stunning black F-Type R....however im not so proud of the camera, it is beyond shocking. Theres no way its meant to look like this, it basically seems as tho its covered with a layer of vaseline or something lol. Anyway, im hoping to get some info on hope to sort this which doesnt break the bank.

Get a hair dryer out and warm the damn thing up, they get condensation inside....may or may not cure it.

What year is your car? The camera did improve over the years - the one in my MY18 is pretty good.

My MY19 camera is terrible and I'm 99% sure it is condensation - there's an old thread on this topic here too which may give some ideas/options: https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=6883
