Hi all!

After almost 3 years I'm now back in an F-Type having recently (Tuesday just gone in fact) collected my Ultra Blue MY19 SVR :D

To say I am happy is an understatement - I had forgotten how much I missed this sound track and power delivery!

For a bit of context and history here are my previous cars in chronological order going back to my RWD F-Type R which I sold in 2020:

As you can probably tell, the F-Type was the car I truly missed so I was determined to find my perfect spec SVR in order to get back into one - I know this is subjective but I feel I have found exactly that (I wanted ceramics, Ultra Blue & MY18 facelift but pre-particulate filter as a minimum) and couldn't believe my luck when it was listed for sale!

Looking forward to many many miles of fun and V8 noise with this one (and it should last longer than a year unlike my previous cars...) - hopefully get to meet a bunch of you in person at some meets once the weather gets a bit nicer too!

PS - Thanks again to simpleR for his help in checking that this wasn't a press car or anything untoward!

Welcome back - that looks a really nice spec. you've got yourself there.

The other 3 cars weren't too shabby either - I'd be very interested to hear your pro and con thoughts on each of them.

Congrats on the SVR, very similar to mine.
Not driven the R8 but the other 2 are special cars, would like your thoughts on them.

That said the SVR brings drama and occasion without the flashiness of the others. Enjoy

Congrats and welcome back 🏎️
Looks terrific and with few miles driven only.
Panoramic roof or carbon?
Definitely for me beats hands down the previous models listed.
Enjoy!

Thanks guys!

Carbon roof - my old one had the panoramic roof and while nice I definitely wanted the SVR to feel more performance orientated (i know these are still heavy cars but every little helps right haha).

I loved the R8 and to be honest the only reason I swapped back to an F-Type (aside from still missing my previous one) was that the vast majority of my driving is done on motorways over long distances - the R8 is perfectly capable and comfortable to do this (and epic fun on the Autobahns  ) but at best will average ~20 mpg! The SVR ticks almost all the same boxes as the R8 (with the R8 having slightly better handling, but the SVR getting much more positive attention - in the UK at least) yet can average over 30mpg on a run!

The AMG GTS looks amazing (the picture doesn't really do it justice) but was too stiff, felt too wide for most UK roads (due to being sat over the rear axle and the bonnet stretched out in-front) and mine had horrendous rattles from the interior trim! If anyone wants to know more about it (and hear the rattles haha) JayEmm on Cars did a video using my very car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W95rSMNkz64

Now to the McLaren 570S - hands down the best car I've ever driven, but the worst I've ever owned... I owned that stunning looking thing for 7 months and at least 2 months of that it was back at McLaren, where I had to fight them to replace the (£2500!!!) battery under (approved used) warranty (amongst other issues)... Their customer service was unacceptably bad so had to get rid of it as soon as possible unfortunately to simply avoid stress! The good parts: insanely positive attention from everyone who saw it - everyone loves them regardless of age or actual interest in cars! Plus to drive - brutal acceleration (made me as the driver feel sick sometimes when the turbos came on boost) with pin sharp handling, yet surprisingly comfortable (more so than the F-Type R in-fact, as my partner was quick to point out haha) and just as economical on a long run as the Jag! I do sometimes miss the drama of those doors and just the positive vibes from the public of driving around in a McLaren but the bad points unfortunately did not outweigh the good...

Thanks for the review comments - very interesting.

I did look at a GTs convertible but found it too wide and stiff on first acquaintance, so didn't really trust myself with it.

The R8 is for me a little too gangsta - especially when in white - and I don't own enough gold jewellery :D Not sure on the gearbox longevity either. Didn't consider the economy but I guess a high revving NA motor is never going to sip fuel.

Knowing someone who worked for QA at McLaren I'd find it a difficult car to invest so much money into - says the owner of an early F who's had most of the list of issues sorted under warranty! I'm also a bit old for attention grabbing doors like that and if I understand it right you have to come to a near standstill while waiting for the front end lift at speed bumps - something I'd probably forget to activate anyway!

I'm not a BMW man, so for me that leaves the ubiquitous 911 or 718 Speedster (the PDK version being a hen's tooth car), which are somewhat expensive and not always reliable - or a Stingray, which does an impressive impression of an inverse tardis. Also the 'vert version doesn't have the visible engine.

None of the above will be cheap options so the feeling is to continue with the F - maybe also treat it to some forged alloys and a big brake kit with all that money I've "saved" ;)

the f hasn't aged at all in my opinion, the svr being the pick of the bunch. i like the mclaren styling but the others are not for me either. lovely colour btw.

Lovely car.
And I admire the fact you’ve wasted money wisely in the intervening period on other models….
The SVR is epic; the soundtrack is just so totally addictive.

You’ll need to watch that chin spoiler on those car park ramps ……

Annoyingly it does scrape slightly coming into my underground parking, but it's the weird straight down piece (like an air dam maybe...?) underneath (and set back from) the main spoiler that catches and thankfully none of the carbon haha
