Paintwork corrosion / blistering - rear quarter/tailgate

Hi, Has anyone experienced similar aluminium corrosion (oxidation) on the rear quarter, adjacent to the tailgate on a coupe (MY2014) - causing blistering under the paintwork ? Any advice for dealing with problem - is it fixable, or is it likely to be a recurring problem over the years ? My car’s a keeper….
This blistering has developed over the last couple of years, although probably started with a factory QC issue during painting, and has always been under there…., just not quite so visible.

My local paint shop (top end specialists) were all for respraying the whole rear quarter, possibly side of the car to ensure a match, Fine if JLR were putting it through under warranty, but sadly they wouldn’t even consider it. No meaningful response was ever received, my dealership simply passed on the bad news.

Obviously we don't have the history of the car but presuming you either brought it like that or you have owned car for a while and it has started to appear?
It obviously didn't appear overnight and looks more than just surface related. Has it had a knock in that area before or a previous repair?

Hi, I’ve owned the car from 2016 (2 years old), and there’s no history of damage to it. The paintwork was checked and confirmed original, ie no repairs or respray.
Think what I’m seeing now is the result of a problem with the original treatment / paint application to the shell.
This is the only sign of any paintwork defect on the car, and from its position almost certainly hasn’t started as a result of water ingress from surface damage (like a stone chip etc).
There is a rivet (or similar) below the adjacent rubber sealing strip, but the blistering appears to start well away from this, possibly eliminating a link to dissimilar metal corrosion…
Just hoping that there’s someone out there that’s been there before me, and knows the best way forward…!

You’d like to think that even well out of warranty that where it’s fairly clear there’s a ‘manufacturers’ problem (rather than any customer fault) that there’d at least be interest and a (£) contribution to any resolution…, especially on a top end vehicle costing circa 6 figures…

I had some blistering on the panel behind the door on the passenger side. Never been damaged and wasn’t caused by stone chips. Jag Dealership said they’d sort it under warranty. JLR refused it….! So dealership said they’d do it under a goodwill gesture but again, JLR refused them from doing it. I opened a complaint with customer centre but they wouldn’t discuss it with me - only willing to discuss with dealership. Ultimately they refused to do anything about the paint claiming it was caused by stone chips - even though their own dealership confirmed that not to be the case and 2 independent paint shops also confirming that it wasn’t caused by stone chips. I have now heard that JLR will stonewall any warranty work they think they can get away with…. I’ve been really fortunate in that the dealership will do the work for me anyway (I won’t say how they plan on recouping their cost or which dealer it is so as not to drop them in it but needless to say they have a way of ensuring they aren’t out of pocket).

That’s similar experience to mine initially and I was even asked to get an estimate for the repair work from the JLR approved body shop, however the dealership were simply fronting the issue on to JLR. Within a few days the negative response was confirmed via my dealership, although they were clearly less accommodating themselves. Factors influencing the decision appeared to include that I wasn't the original owner (I was the second), and hadn’t bought the vehicle through the JLR dealership network. Apparently the fact that the car had very low miles, no damage, a full JLR main dealer service history, and was still under a JLR service plan didn’t count. The car was admittedly just outside the paintwork warranty period (my fault for not getting the corrosion reported it as soon as I found the issue) but Id hoped that on a top of the range prestige model that JLR would’ve stepped up and taken responsibility - with even a percentage split on the costs for the corrective work….to ensure a happy customer, rather than one that wouldn’t touch another JLR vehicle and wouldn’t recommend the company or dealership to anyone in future.
That said, I love the car and plan to keep it for the long term. It never fails to make me !!!
