New owner, few questions

Just got a 2014 V8 R Coupe and so far am loving it! Just a few questions to get me going....

1. It’s my daily driver so it will be used often but there are periods where I’m away with work for a few weeks and I want to cover it up. Any recommendations for a decent waterproof car cover that doesn’t break the bank? Found several on amazon around £40 but no idea if they’ll fit!

2. Fixed rear spoiler, what are the options and how does it work with the spoiler that raises up?

3. Tinted rear window? Do people get this done? As the parcel shelf is quite thick and the boot relatively shallow I’ll have to take off to fit certain bags in. But the window is clear and you can see right in. Any thoughts, I’m guessing just a dark tint will do the job?

Thanks!

P.S. Here is a pic of her...

2.. Spoiler isnt fixed, should go up and down with the switch and raise and lower at speed.

3. I have the lightest tint available all round and it fine, just dark enough to take away prying eyes.

Ah sorry I mean I’m interested in adding a fixed rear wing like the SVR one.

There's a "standard" fixed spoiler that doesn't move (I have one) but for the SVR spoiler I think you need to replace the panel below the rear glass. I think there's a thread somehwere on here about it, and I also think there might be something in the For Sale and Wanted section about it.

Dont scrimp on a cheap outdoor cover, your car will end up looking like you polished it with a brillo pad.
As for the spoiler your looking at least 2.5k to 3k to buy and retrofit.

Ah I see, in that case I'd be interested in a standard fixed one that doesn't move. Do you have more info on that or where to get one? I had a quick search and can just see a couple of ebay options. Is it a case of attaching it and disconnecting the motor that raises the current one?

Cheers for the info. You reckon these cheap ones will damage it even if they have a soft fleece lining? Just cant justify spending over £150 on a cover, seems mental.

I’d also recommend buying the most expensive cover you can. Even a soft lining can be abrasive if there is any movement. Breathability matters too. Cars sweat and over time can affect the paint finish.

Lovely colour. I would leave it uncovered. If your asking about a waterproof cover I take it the car will be left outside. Even the best cover will be moving about the bodywork when the wind get under it no matter how well it fits. If you are going down this road, consider an indoor cover then an outdoor cover on top of it & not cheap generic one size fits all (no better than a tarpaulin), it has to be a proper fitting cover. Have you considered renting a garage or even using a storage facility
At the other end of the cost scale, self healing paint protection film all over, then you can use a cover if you want, but not for me. Everyone has a different level of OCD. Good luck

Yeah will be left outside, no access to garage unfortunately. Indoor cover then outdoor cover on top is what I'm thinking, there's so many nice curves on the car that I can see getting rubbed by a cover, don't want that to happen! Especially being a fairly unique paint colour.

Make sure its really tight. Add additional straps to minimise movement. Person near me fitted a generic cover to a car over the last few months. Amazing how much the wind got into it, so bad that its now shredding itself. Ok that was over the winter & a lot longer than you are proposing but just shows what can happen.
I have an indoor cover for my Ftype from "Every Car Covered" which I am very pleased with good tight fit from their supersoft pro range & it was a decent price. They also do outdoor covers. Check out their website

Also forgot to mention, you shouldn't fit a cover on a dirty car, sorry if im telling you how to suck eggs.

Great thanks, had a look at their website, nice to see pics of the cover on the actual car rather than generic ones. Will probably go for one of their outdoor ones! Thanks for the recommendation.

Back to my other questions, do people get the rear window tinted? Any issues with visibility at night?

mine has had an aftermarket tint and I don't have any issues at night.

Just a thought if you are only going for an outdoor cover. Place some large microfibre towels at any sharp spots & corners on the body. Should help if the cover starts rubbing. My favourite colour, as my Range Rover Sport is Barossa which is a deep metallic wine, similar to yours & had a BMW 640 Grand coupe with a similar colour, looks black until the sun hits it, then :o

If you are going for cover then you get what you pay for - tailored, breathable etc.
£150 for a cover doesnt seem overpriced, your covering a £30k+ car...

Tints - personal choice, as long as you dont go limo black visibility shouldn't be an issue

Spoiler - as Timbo said the SVR wing is extremely pricey (£2.5k+), better off going for the coupe fixed wing, have a search on Ebay. You disconnect the hydraulics on current spoiler and from memory the fixed wing normally comes with a new boot panel so your original spoiler panel & hydraulics is removed, quite an easy job, 30 mins max

Yeah absolutely agree about having a proper fitted cover, just had no idea they would cost that much more than a universal one. I've narrowed it down to Moltex, Everycarcovered, and carcovers, all around £200 for decent all weather one. Someone mentioned Every car covered was good?

Will probably go 20% tint on back and legal limit on side windows.

As for the spoiler, will have a little hunt around on Ebay and keep and eye out! Thanks for your help.
