New member looking to buy 2013 F-Type 3.0 litre convertible

Hi, I’m looking to buy a 2013 F-Type V6 3.0 lite convertible with 20,000 miles and 4 previous owners. It’s in very good condition but as this will be my first Jag, my kids are off my hands now, and I can fInally get the car I’ve always wanted. I’m hoping someone can give me some tips of what I should look out for especially with this model. The dealer is only giving me a 30 day warranty and are recommending an extended warranty that I need to check out to see what are the claim limits and extent of coverage. I was also thinking of paying for an independent inspection of the car too. Any recommendations about who I should use for an independent inspection and extended warranty’s for a 9 year and 6 month old car would also be greatly appreciated.

Check the rear diff for oil leaks out of the input shaft as the seals leak on the older ones, just done my Mrs 3ltr. Not to bad a DIY if yr inclined that way. Also listen at startup for any chatter from the SC snout as this could mean the drive couplings worn, not a biggie but will need addressing sooner than later. If it's a cab then check the drains are clean in the back when the hoods half up.

Post the reg and I'll have a look into history if that helps.

Thanks for the advice a bit to do , but it’s better to be safe than sorry. The reg is WK63 BXX. Thanks so much that would be great if you could check the history

I'd be looking to see if the belts (supercharger and accessories) have been changed. It doesnt have timing belts.

I have a 2013 convertible and although 20k is low mileage, i'd get them changed if not.

Car 5782 a non-S 335bhp V6 in Salsa red. 4 previous owners. Unsure on build spec and items such as active exhaust etc.
PDI 30th July 2013 and then waited for a new 63 reg on 2nd Sept 2013 before being used for first 3yrs in Cornwall area.

The car has not been seen by Jaguar since 2nd Sept 2016 and therefore shows as 2004 days overdue service (although I am sure it has been serviced somewhere since then but what has actually been serviced on the car I don't know). Other than the standard stuff (oil, filters, brake fluid etc) it should of had spark plugs in 2019 and front accessory and supercharger belts in 2022.

Based on MOT history it was off the road for 9 months from end of 2019 to May 2020 (COVID?) and again for a month in June 2021.

I found online adverts for the car from 12th October 2021 (Car Guru), 18th March 2022 (Car Guru), 14th November 2022 (Car Craft), 13th Dec 2022 (RAC website), 13th February 2023 (current advert) so may of been sold/resold a few times in past 24 months.

Clear on PNC. Always worth an independent check and car history check and Car Vertical Sponsor the forum for 10% off - link at the top of the page.

Thanks so much for the history. I will certainly obtain an independent check especially given the recent changes in ownership. Whilst the car does have a few more service entries noted, as you’ve indicated it’s not obvious what was actually done. Thanks again.

I also own a 2013 convertible so a few things to consider from my experience

At this age buy entirely on condition that is not only bodywork but underneath, interior, everything functioning, not the mileage.
4 owners means you'll be the 5th and trying to sell to the 6th. Consider if you will sell or note
The dealer cannot simply offer 30 days. Consumer law will protect you for 6 months unless he tells you of specific faults, so you do have some cover on it

Rear subframes rust. Never going to be an MOT failure unless extreme but equally more than a cosmetic cosmetic
Water pumps do fail so check for weeps
Belts as posted by daytona 650 should have been done on the last service, so check they were. It's fairly expensive
Exhausts valves squeak and seize. Ensure they work or be ready for self repairs or a new £1600 back box
Tyres wear, especially inner fronts so look as haggling point
Should have had 10 services so far as it's annual if not mileage sooner. The low mileage is not a reason to not service

Good luck and let us know how it goes

Wow there is so much to look out for. Thanks for the advice. Would you know anyone who could do a pre purchase inspection check somewhere near Brighton with F-Type experience who could check these things with reliability.
