MY18 Headlight issues

I've just done a quick search on here regarding known issues with late model headlight units and was gobsmacked to find it's quite a common fault!

My enquiry was driven by the fact that I'm seriously interested in a MY18 car being sold by my local Main Dealer. An MOT history check shows an 'advisory ' on its last MOT stating:

"NSF lamp unit light intensity obviously reduced. Part of the LED unit is inoperable ..." and

"NSF direction indicator with a multiple light source up to 1/2 not functioning. Part of LED unit is inoperable obviously reducing light emittance.."

If I was to proceed with the purchase I would of course check whether (a) this has already been rectified or (b) that it would be as part of the sale process.

My concern - although the car would come with a 12 month warranty - is that if this is a common issue the other unit may fail at some time.

Plenty of info here.

Mine has also gone and I can confirm it is covered by the Jaguar extended warranty. My replacement gets fitted Friday.

The selling dealer should resolve this before the sale.

The issue only seems to affect the nearside (passenger UK side).

From posts here and elsewhere, it seems only the left headlight is prone to this failure, regardless of RHD or LHD. There's a thread about it somewhere.

From the mine of information in this thread - https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=6411 - it does appear that there is a very small chance of the right-hand lamp having the same fault, but by far the most common occurence is in the left-hand lamp

SimpleR recently had his left-side lamp replaced under Jaguar extended warranty, so I would definitely press the dealer to have that work done before purchase, if they haven't already replaced it. There is a possibility, according to the folks on the Facebook group that is investigating a fix for this, that the MOT could fail if the DRL section dims even further, so I certainly would not purchase the car without the headlamp being in 100% working order.

Even if the problem has been rectified I'd be looking for invoices and more information to ensure it isn't a salvaged lamp swapped in by the garage. Opening the bonnet should reveal the barcode with MFG date on it. It it shows 2017, it's not a new unit which can fail again anytime or never....

Thanks to all for the fantastic prompt feedback and advice. The car is over my budget but currently top of my short list but I'm viewing a couple of others this afternoon. IRR is my preference and one is in budget. It's a 2016 car so I'm assuming it has older style , less problematic headlight units.
